The Best Place for the Best Beaches: Rincon, Puerto Rico

Going to the beach is one of the best things you can do to waste a beautiful summer day. However, your beach day can be ruined if you choose an awful beach to go to. A crowded, dirty, and polluted beach can turn your day in the sun into a nightmare. That isn’t the case if you decide to visit the wonderful beach town of Rincon, located in the Northwest corner of Puerto Rico. Rincon is home to some of the most beautiful and secluded beaches anywhere. There is great snorkeling, fantastic surf, and lots and lots of sand for excellent bodysurfing and playing in the shore break.

The first beach you need to check out is Corcega Beach, located just on the outskirts of town. Corcega is a beautiful white sand beach that is somewhat blocked from the surf, so most times the ocean is nice and calm. It’s perfect for wading and swimming, and it’s very secluded so you can be sure to not see more than a few people on the beach during the peak times. There are a few hotels down the beach, so if you get hungry or just want to lounge on a beach chair, most places are more than willing to give you a hand. It’s a perfect place to bring a cooler and some beach toys and have a nice quiet day with the family while working on your tan.

A few miles down the road on the other side of town is the world famous Steps Beach. It gets its name from the concrete set of actual steps that somehow appeared years ago on the reef. Steps is known for it’s world-class snorkeling, and with visibility pushing over fifty feet in some spots, it’s easy to see why this beach can get really crowded on nice days. Just recently Steps was included as part of the Tres Palmas marine reserve so you can be sure that all of the sea-life and scenery will be absolutely pristine. On the right day you most certainly will see turtles, snapper, octopus, puffer fish, and during March humpback whales migrate a hundred yards off the beach. This is definitely the beach to head to for great water activities.
If you are looking for some surf to go with your sun, head on over to Maria’s beach, a stone’s throw from Steps. Maria’s is home to some of the best waves and surf breaks in the Atlantic Ocean, so if you are a surfer, definitely head over there with your board and your courage. The surf can get up to 15 feet, so it can be a little intimidating. If the surf does get too big for you, walk up the hill a few feet and have some happy hour drinks at the Calypso CafÃ?©. The Calypso is where all the surfers meet for beers and rum after a day of waves and scarf down some great seafood. Happy hour runs from 5 until 7, so stop in for $2 Corona and some stiff rum punch.

The beach is one of the best places to hang and have some fun with your family. And the best beaches are in Rincon, Puerto Rico. Head on over to some of the beaches mentioned here for a wonderful time and a great day.
