The Biography of Delilah, Famous Syndicated Radio Host
Born Delilah Rene Luke, her father led a Country-Western band, and her brother was part of a Jazz band. Delilah loved music, and she wanted to perform herself. But, she soon found she didn’t have a singing voice. Delilah didn’t have a talent for acting or dancing either. Fortunately, though, she did find her talent: she could talk, and people would listen.
So, when Delilah was still in middle school, she combined her voice and her love of music. She became a news reporter on KDUN-AM, a radio station in Reedsport. Although KDUN was a small operation, it was known as “The Voice of the Oregon Dunes.”
Today, Delilah is a devoted Christian, single mother, Point Hope founder, author, and public speaker, as well as being a famous syndicated radio host. Her radio show, “Delilah After Dark”, is an uplifting mixture of conversation, insightful thoughts, sharing, song requests, and pop music. The show’s host always shares snippets of her personal life, especially about her seven kids.
Listeners love to call into Delilah’s radio show and request songs be played for that special someone in their lives. If a caller doesn’t share a story about their request, Delilah often plays “detective” in her warm, caring manner. She gently prods the caller, and before you know it, he or she feels like they are personally chatting with Delilah over a cup of coffee. The callers either have a heartbreaking, or an uplifting, story that they share with the radio host… and her seven million listeners.
Other times, listeners to “Delilah After Dark” syndicated radio show call up and openly share stories of their lives with the host. Delilah listens sympathetically, then responds to these stories with warm, encouraging words of hope and faith. She also plays a requested song for the caller. Or, Delilah chooses a song that fits the situation perfectly. According to Delilah, she loves music because “it touches the heart the way nothing else can.”
Even though Delilah doesn’t have a “Ph.D.” behind her name, she’s a successful syndicated radio show because she opens up her heart night-after-night on the airwaves. She listens to stories from heartbroken lovers, long-time married people, proud parents and other relatives, friends, thankful recipients of God-given miracles… she listens to everyday stories about everyday people in the world. Delilah listens, sympathizes or congratulates, and she always offers words of hope to those in need. Plus, she plays a song to help the caller celebrate, or to help the caller cope, or reflect, on their own special story.
In her personal life, four of Delilah’s kids are adopted. Since she’s well-versed about the foster care system, Delilah founded an organization called, “Point Hope.” The purpose of Point Hope is to assist children, particularly needy ones in Ghana, and kids who are in foster care around the world.
