You may think that glass is just glass, but one visit to the Corning Glass Museum and you will see what a work of art glass can be. Make plans to spend at least 3-5 hours at the museum, depending on what is going on the day you visit.

The Corning Glass Museum has permanent collections as well as special exhibits and many other things gong on year round. Lets take a quick look at what is coming up.

Live, narrated glass making demonstrations take place all day, every day. The whole family will enjoy this one. The .demonstration lasts about 20 minutes to a half hour and you will not be able to take your eyes off of it. Do you know that the temperature of the liquid glass is as hot as molten lava. Kind of makes you have a great deal of respect for the men who work with it. From September 6 to October 30 you will watch them make glass pumpkins.

Would you like to try your hand at glass blowing? The Corning Glass Museum has walk in workshops where you can do just that. They have many different projects that you can do depending on the time of the year and there is cost involved, but just imagine showing off the beautiful creation you made, There are programs for the children too. Just to give you an idea of the scope of the Corning Glass Museum, there are over 45,000 objects in their various collections. Here are some of the collections, just to give you a general idea of the variety, The Origins of Glassmaking, Glass of the Romans, Glass in the Islamic World, Early European Glass, Later European Glass, Asian Glass ,Glass in America, Crystal City, Paperweights of the World, Modern Glass and last but certainly not least, Glass after 1960.

They have many exhibits that change regularly One of the current ones is Glass of the Maharajahs, an exhibit of glass objects from the turn of the 20th century It is absolutely dazzling and when you see how creative they were in making everyday objects out of glass you will simply be amazed.

Corning New York is in the western part of the state in Steuben County It is a mid sized town with a population slightly over 10,000. It is an easy drive from the major cities in New York, Rochester:, Utica: and Albany: Even New York City is an easy drive, not a short one but I 86 goes right through Corning
