The Denali Wilderness Lodge
When you walk in the door from the parking lot you are greeted by a most inviting room. The door enters into a large living room with a massive stone fire place in the middle of the room. The room is always personally decorated to fit the season. The room has plenty of over sized sofas and chairs. It’s easy to sit down beside the fireplace and become to lethargic to move. You can gather here with a nice complimentary coffee or hot chocolate and discuss the day’s events before moving off to bed.
The rooms here are cozy and homelike. Quilts drape the oversized beds, and artwork that matches the unexplored wilderness hangs on the walls. The rooms are themed and beautifully decorated. Some are pure Alaska rooms, some have Southwestern decor, some are simple and minimal, and so on. Some rooms have one bed, while others have three.
The room I was in was a large room near the front door. The room its self is large and has plenty of room for two or three people to move about and get ready. The vanity is outside the bathroom so it makes it easier for several people to get ready at one time. The bathroom is small. It has a standing shower and a toilet, and no much more. But you are unlikely to find a large bathroom anywhere in Alaska.
The beds are soooo comfortable. Had my room not been right beside the front door I probably could I have slept all day. There are plenty of quilts and blankets to keep warm during the night. I actually got so toasty one night I needed to turn on the fan in the middle of December.
The dining here is amazing home-cooking-I’ve never had home-cooking this good. Meals are all two to four courses. The meals range from good Deep South cooking to traditional American cooking with a pure Alaska twist. The owner of the bed and breakfast, who lives on the top floor, cooks and serves all the meals.
There are nine rooms here and a large, very inviting lounge with a fireplace and satellite TV. Windows decorate the walls with landscapes painted across them. There is also an outside Jacuzzi. The first thing you will notice when you walk in the door is the movie collection, which could easily put a movie rental place to shame. They also offer retreats and getaway packages.
There is so much to do around Denali, and the owners will help you with all you’re planning. You can river-raft, kayak, rent mountain bikes, take guided tours, and much more. The owners are the nicest people and filled with pure Alaskan hospitality.
