The Dillard House: Country Style Dining at Its Best
I had the pleasure of enjoying two meals at the Dillard House this weekend while at a ladies church retreat. This was my second visit to the Dillard House restaurant, which is located on U.S. 441, two miles from the North Carolina Border in the North Georgia Mountains.
The cost of our Meal at the Dillard House:
The meals were a part of the conference stay, which included all tips, so we were seated and served immediately. I did note that a normal paid dinner at Dillard House was $16.00 each. For the amount of food that was served, I would say that the price was too low.
The experience of Eating at the Dillard House:
Eating at the Dillard house is an experience within itself. After being seated, our drink order was taken and brought out We were served was huge slices of tomato, fresh cantaloupe, and coleslaw. Immediately after drinks were served, a large basket of rolls was placed on the table followed by a deluge or fried and baked chicken, ham, country fried steak, squash and spinach casseroles, fried okra, and much much more. There was more food than humanly possible to eat.
The next morning at breakfast, we were directed to a buffet meal upon arriving in the restaurant. As I piled my plate high with assorted fruits, fresh whipped cream, breakfast pastries and oatmeal, it occurred to me that the only thing I needed was a few slices of bacon. Well, I got a whole lot more than that. In addition to bringing a platter of bacon to the table, we were also brought eggs, ham, grits, more oatmeal, biscuits, rolls, gravy, sausage, pancakes and much more.
The dessert at the Dillard House:
When we were finished eating, the serving staff brought out take home containers and dessert. The dessert serving portions were miniscule whether compared to the size of this meal, or any other. Still, the sweetness of the strawberry cobbler served to us at the Dillard House was sufficient to satisfy the palate after such a large dinner
The quality of the food at Dillard House:
The food at The Dillard House is just like Grandma would have made. There were some imperfections (like very salty ham), but with so many food options, it was easy to move on to something else. Everything was fresh and most of the food was grown on location.
The service at Dillard House:
We found the staff at the Dillard House Restaurant to be very friendly and attentive. The drinks and meals were served quickly and efficiently.
I live about 90 minutes from the Dillard House, but I would gladly make the trip again for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
