The Heat of Summer

It started as a bright hot summer day

We were Pic- nicking in the state forest

Below the hill side rest.

When the forest ranger summons all

To rid the forests run all run

To the highest hill. As

The raging fire out of control

The people along with animals run

The fire department both land and air

The range of fire for miles beware

The news caught a piece of it

The smoke fog dust debris

Clogging pours and smoke filled eyes

Perhaps small glimpse for the news

At five.

While the town and crews head for the hills

Of the dirt mounds trail roads ahead

Of the fire and smoke. Animal packs

The fire men YELLING TO GET out the way

Get out of here or hell to pay!

The scope of fire around for miles

The burning sensations tree tops burning

Ranging of heat.

With animals trampling rumbling

Running seeing vaguely out of the

Burning tree’s galore of the burning woods

The ranging fire is out of control.

The wind and breeze picks up too.

The people along with animals run

The fire department both land and air

The range of fire for miles beware

The wind picks up the weather is dry

The burning lasts for miles long past

The firemen smoke water now hot packs

Sneaking up under the ground all around them

Under trees and under ground the ground

Is more than scorching hot?

These men and women seen as much animals

And all the people to safety up the hillside to

Dirt mounds trails.

The fire was burning long the next day

The rain is falling all around here

Smoke is all we see now for miles

There the heat of summer was once
