The Importance of Having a Brand/Logo for Your Business
In today’s world, most businesses, either small or large, have logos, yet many people don’t understand why having these two articles is important.
When you’re starting a business it is good to consider designing a logo for a couple of reasons. In the logo you incorporate who you are as a business and what it is that you do into a graphic that people will see and memorize. Every time they see your logo they will know what company they are dealing with and what they are about.
Customers are more apt to remember your company by your logo as it is easier to remember a company name by associating it with a picture. Think of the Pepsi logo with its circular form and sequence of colors starting at the top with red, white and then blue. Anyone who has heard about Pepsi, and I’m betting just about everyone has, knows the logo that goes with the name. It’s all in the association of: Company Name + Logo = costumers remembering your company and what it is you do.
Try thinking of Pepsi without the colorful logo. You can’t, can you? Or at least it’s not easy. That’s because you have seen them both together several times and therefore your mind associates them that way and they are imprinted in your mind as one.
It is easy for people to forget names but adding a logo to go with your business name can make all of the difference. If someone has never been to your establishment or has never heard of your company then your logo may be all they have to judge you by. Work hard to make your logo stand out and be professional as your style and hard work will show through. Your professional logo alone may be all that is needed to bring in a slew of customers.
Some key points to think about when creating a logo are:
1) Your target market – You should think about the kinds of people, or a specific group of people, you are trying to reach. Whatever logo you decided upon it should speak to the group of people you have in mind.
For example if you are in an area where there are a lot of creative people, say writers, designers, photographers and artists, you should try and create a logo that has a bit of an artsy flare that would appeal to all kinds of creative people in that area.
2) Try and create a logo that will set you apart from your competition. This will make the difference as to whether or not you will stand apart from larger companies as far as whose logo will be remembered.
3) Have a rough sketch of your logo before you try and create it using specific software on the computer. It will be much easier for you this way.
4) Don’t settle for just any kind of software. Be sure to thoroughly do your research on software and read reviews of the products you like the best. Find out which software would be an asset to you.
5) If you just don’t have the knack to create a logo yourself there are many design companies out there that will do it for you. Again, research here is critical as some design agencies create better work than others. If you can, find reviews of the companies you are leaning toward hiring to create your logo. Quality is key.
6) Before registering your name it is a good idea to make sure you check to see if your name is close to another company’s or if you are using a name that is already taken. If you forget to do this and register your name, the company who has the same name or a very similar one, will probably take legal action against you. This would greatly hurt your company before you were even able to get it off the ground.
7) Research, research, research! I can’t stress enough how important research is in creating a logo that will grab people’s attention. Without research you will not be able to define your market accurately and in turn create a logo that will reel your targeted audience in.
The bottom line here is that any business with a good logo is more apt to have a steady flow of customers than those who don’t.
