Personality is a strong determiner of a lot of things in our lives and now there are experts who believe that personality is the key to a strong garden as well. Huh? That’s right your personality can affect your garden.

For many people you can tell their personality type just by their choice of colors. The choices a person makes for color in their homes and with what they wear can tell you a lot about their personality. So then why wouldn’t it make sense then that the colors you choose for your garden might make or break how it grows. Psychologists have studied the effects of colors on the human mind for a very long time. Colors can affect a person’s mood or personality on a number of levels. Take some time this year and think about this when picking the flowers for your garden.

If you are passionate about the colors in your garden, just as you might be in life, then it stands to reason that you would take special care in tending your garden. If you choose colors and plants that don’t “speak” to you as a person then it also stands to reason that being in the garden would not be your preference. Think about the rooms you paint in your home and how some colors really depress you or make you unhappy so you wouldn’t use those colors to paint a room, it is the same with your garden. If you take the time to consider which colors you would enjoy in your garden then you would surely ensure its success.

Where do you start and how do you determine what colors you are passionate about? Go to your local gardening center and stand in the middle of the colors. Now pay special attention to which ones catch your eye. Pick up the plant of the particular color you are getting a reaction from and hold it up to the sun. What do you feel? Does the color make you feel at peace, passionate or happy? Or does it make you feel angry and irritated? Pay attention to what you feel within the colors and your garden will surely be a place you want to be and that will be the secret of your gardening success. Of course, if you don’t feel anything when choosing a plant perhaps you may benefit by taking someone else along with you.
