The Simpsons: Second Season on DVD
Starring such voice talents as Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Harry Shearer, and Hank Azaria, Fox’s The Simpsons is about the greatest TV cartoon family, and they’re yours to own on DVD. Start your collection with the complete second season.
As creator Matt Groening said himself, the third season makes this one look like their first season. When compared to the more modern Simpsons art, the characters in this season are crude but the magic is still there. Packed with messages, the second season has more childish humor and less harsh adult cracks than you may be used to.
Be sure to enjoy episodes like “Treehouse of Horror”; part of a long-running series of episodes, this spooky episode includes three different stories, all told by Bart (Cartwright) and Lisa Simpson (Smith) that end up scaring Homer Simpson(Castellaneta). “Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish” is about Homer’s boss and Nuclear Power Plant owner, Montgomery Burns running for governor and finding out that his dishonest campaign can be exposed just as easily as his negligent supervision of safety in his power plant. For classic second season fun, there’s always “Bart the Daredevil” in which the Simpson family go to a monster truck rally where Bart is dazzled by motorcycle daredevil, Lance Murdock, and tries to imitate him with his skateboard. “Bart Gets Hit By a Car” is where Bart rides along on his skateboard and gets accidentally hit by Montgomery Burns, sending him to the hospital, and the Simpson family hires Lionel Hutz to take on the case. For wholesome Simpson fun, be sure to see “Bart’s Dog Gets an F” in which Santa’s Little Helper becomes too reckless and wild for the family to handle, and runs the risk of being taken away.
On the plus side, listen for such great celebrity guest voices as James Earl Jones as a narrator in “Treehouse of Horror”, Tony Bennett as himself and Tom Poston as the Capital City Goofball in “Dancin’ Homer”, Harry Fierstein, Alex Rocco, Phil Hartman as classic character Lionel Hutz, Moses, Cable Guy, and the Barfly. Larry King plays himself, George Takei plays Akira, and Sab Shimono as the Master Chef in “One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish”. And last but not least, you can’t miss the voice of Danny Devito as Herb Powell in “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?”.
The Simpsons and their antics continue on in many more seasons to come, but season two is the first one you should buy to start off your Simpsons collection. What are you waiting for? What’s stopping you from going to your local video retailer or going to Amazon.com to pick up your copy of this great season to one of TV’s greatest shows?
