The Simpsons: The Complete Fourth Season Available on DVD
The fun begins as Bart and Lisa leave for the dreaded Kamp Krusty in “Kamp Krusty”. When the kids arrive, they immediately find out the truth about the camp. Along with many other Krusty-loving children, Lisa and Bart are subjected to slavery, and mistreatment. Bart loses his cool and decides enough is enough, and seizes control of the camp. For some spoof fun, don’t miss the next episode, “A Streetcar Named Marge” in which Marge Simpson plays Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire. Little Maggie is thrown in a daycare center where she must fight to get her pacifier. The way in which it is done makes the episode sound and look like The Great Escape. Watch carefully for the referral to Alfred Hitchcock. Needless to say, it’s loads of fun.
The episodes like “Mr. Plow” in which Homer and his bar-fly friend, Barney compete for the opportunity to work plowing snow in Springfield are quite fun in the traditional Simpsons sense. Then you’ve got your famous “Treehouse of Horror 3”, the all-too-funny “Duffless”, and “Marge vs The Monorail” in which Leonard Nimoy guest stars. One of The Simpsons’ sweetest episodes is “Lisa’s First Word”. Watch the ending for one great and heartwarming surprise.
For more guest stars, look for “Krusty Gets Kancelled” in which Krusty the Clown’s show is forced off the air by ‘Gabbo’. But, with the help of Lisa and Bart, Krusty has such popular guests as Johnny Carson, Hugh Hefner and Bette Midler trying to help him save his show.
The third season wasn’t bad, but The Simpsons have never looked better than in this, The Simpsons: The Complete Fourth Season. The artwork is superb, the acting is wonderful, and the comedy is top-notch. If there was ever a Simpsons season to own, this is it. The DVD set has some great interactive menus. It also offers some Animation Showcases including a picture in picture, storyboards, animatics and commercials, and commentary by a variety of different people involved in the making of each episode.
