The Three Best Bookstores in Olathe

Over the last few years, Olathe has grown at an incredible rate and added a number of businesses to the area. One no longer has to venture outside of Olathe to fulfill their shopping and entertainment needs and if you think that it is necessary to travel to Overland Park or Leawood to find a decent bookstore, I am here to tell you otherwise.

Olathe sports at least three of the best bookstores available in the nation.

1. Borders Books and Music, located at 15350 W. 119th Street, is a nationally known bookstore that has everything a book or music-lover desires. Borders is incredibly well-organized, making it easy to locate the book you wish to purchase and making browsing completely stress-free.

In addition, their easy-to-use computer catalogs are located in convenient places and allow you to search for books, book availability, and other information quickly and easily without having to stand in line at an information desk. Another bonus; in my experience, Borders employees are friendly and knowledgeable.

Borders also features a fantastic caf© with a wide variety of beverages and snacks as well as a nice area for those who wish to enjoy their treats sitting down or wish to work and read.

On top of their ample collection of books, Borders also carries a wide selection of music, games, calendars, office supplies, and gifts.

They are open from 9 AM to 10 PM Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 11 PM Friday through Saturday, and 9 AM to 9 PM on Sundays. For more information, you can reach Borders at 913-764-2177.

2. Half Price Books, located at 15309 W. 119th Street, is the perfect place for finding low price books and superb deals. While a lot of their books are gently used, almost all of them are still in excellent condition. However, if you do not like buying books that are slightly worn, Half Price Books also carries like-new and new books.

The only downside to Half Price Books is the large, varied collection sometimes makes it difficult to locate the book that you are looking for. This can be particularly true if you are not familiar with the specifics of the book such as the author or the cover design.

The best aspect of Half Price Books is the prices-half price. Each Half Price Books store has a unique assortment of books ranging from bestsellers to classics, and from widely available to rare and out-of-print. Therefore, each visit will definitely include new additions to the shelves.

Half Price Books carries more than purely books. They are stocked with music (CDs, cassettes, records and more), movies (DVDs and VHS) and a large mixture of games and software.

They are open from 9 AM until 9 PM Mondays through Thursdays, 9 AM to 10 PM Friday through Saturday, and from 10 AM until 8 PM on Sundays. You can reach Half Price Books at 913-829-9959.

3. Foozles Bookstore, located at 20321 W. 151st Street inside The Great Mall of the Great Plains, though often forgotten, is a fantastic place to find new, uncommon books to read. While Foozles Bookstore does carry a few of the latest and most popular books, the majority of their selection is books that are harder to find and have, unfortunately, been forgotten.

It’s an excellent store for finding high-quality books that you have not read yet whether you are a non-fiction, poetry, horror, romance, or other type of fiction reader. Their selection is diverse.

The best fact about Foozles, as well as the most obvious upon entering the store, is the uncommonly-low prices. Almost all of Foozles’ books are priced at clearance prices! In addition to the normal clearance prices, Foozles constantly holds additional sales and ‘buy one, get one 50% off’ deals that make it extremely affordable to feed your reading habit.

If you wish to contact Foozles for any reason, they can be reached at 913-393-2063.

Whether you are a serious reader, a light reader, or merely someone looking for a gift, Olathe has the bookstores to fulfill your every need.
