The Top Entertainment Venues in San Diego
Right near the harbor is one of the top entertainment spots in San Diego, Humphrey’s By The Bay. Humphreys’ is an upscale venue that sits between the Humphrey’s Half Moon Inn Hotel and the Humphrey’s Restaurant. They offer the option of Dinner Show packages as well as the option for concert entertainment without dinner. What better way to enjoy a wonderful weekend than with dinner and a concert while staying at the Half Moon Inn sitting right on the harbor. This is the perfect recipe for a good weekend of entertainment. Humphrey’s with all of its options has all the makings of the perfect entertainment venue. They also provide a casual concert setting as well and an incredible jazz Sunday brunch from the restaurant that is hands down the best one in the city of San Diego. Not too far from the airport going downtown San Diego is a venue by the name of 4th and B that coincidentally sits at the corner of 4th and 345 B Street. This is one of the top premiere and busiest venues in the city. They have been around for ten years and recently remodeled providing patrons with even better service in addition to the wonderful acoustics. 4th & B is home to new artists, up and coming artists as well as those that are well established. It is not uncommon to see one of these artists walking around downtown San Diego or in the Gas Lamp Quarter. 4th & B also provides after hours entertainment to patrons and allows private parties. Visit them at their Web site www.4thandb.com or contact the box office at 619-231-4343 for further information.
Driving North away from the airport right past the Del Mar horse tracks exiting off of the interstate 5 to Lomas Santa Fe headed west is one my favorite joint. I refer to it as a joint but Belly Up Tavern located at 143 S. Cedros Avenue is one of the coolest places in Southern California. Rated one of the top entertainment venues in San Diego and frequented by local surfers and artists it is the perfect place to listen to music and have a quick meal and enjoy live music. Located in the arts district with many cool shops and art stores and within walking distance of Fletcher’s’ Beach one of the local surf spots, Belly Up is one of the hottest nightspots in the area. This is an enjoyable small intimate venue with a friendly staff that serves good food from its in house cafÃ?© Wild Notes where entrÃ?©es costs between $6 to $9. If you are looking for more of a dinner menu they also have a great sister restaurant The Pacific Coast Grill around the corner on Pacific Coast Highway that serves great inexpensive food as well. Drinks are great and inexpensive and the talent that comes through Belly Up is incredible. For a moment you get so comfortable you might imagine sitting in someone’s over sized living room while dining and listening to music. I’ve walked in on a Tuesday night and paid $9 at the door to see Dennis Quaid and the Sharks playing live. Many locals as well as international stars come through Belly Up Tavern on a regular basis. This is an incredibly relaxing yet electric spot because the contact with the artists is so intimate and the staff is so people friendly. This is definitely one you don’t want to sleep on. If you are visiting from out of town don’t leave Belly Up Tavern without one of its’ signature t-shirts and their incredible posters. They are both a must have. Visit the Belly Up Web site at www.bellyup.com or contact the box office at 858-481-8140 for further information.
Talk to locals and they will tell you that these three establishments are the top entertainment spots in the city. I like them all and since I live here I fortunately don’t have to make a choice among the three. I frequent all of them and they are all the best in their categories. On your next visit to San Diego make it a point to pamper yourself with a little nightlife and entertainment by visiting one of my favorite spots.
