The Top Steakhouses in Honolulu

Whether you are a long-time resident of Honolulu or simply a tourist here to catch some sun, with all the sights and sounds of this marvelous city vying for your attention, it is easy to overlook some of the best restaurants and steakhouses Honolulu has to offer. Here are the top steakhouses in Honolulu.

Of course, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is considered a chain restaurant, but it is a chain restaurant like no other. The Honolulu version of Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is conveniently located right in the heart of Honolulu’s business district and the Hawaii Convention Center as part of the famous Restaurant Row. Dress is casual to dressy, and no jacket or tie is required. The warm, comfortable atmosphere is perfect for a first date or a twenty-fifth anniversary. Yet Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Honolulu can also serve as the setting for a fabulous business or birthday dinner. If you are in the mood for a steak, you can choose from the mouth-watering filet, the juicy rib-eye, the hearty New York strip, the classic T-Bone, or my personal favorite – the tender Porterhouse for two. All steaks at Ruth’s Chris in Honolulu are cooked to perfection. If you feel like something other than steak, don’t fret, the Ruth’s Chris menu also offers succulent fresh Maine lobster, stuffed chicken breast, marinated Portobello mushrooms, lamb and veal chops, and Ahi-tuna steak. Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is open daily for dinner from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Reservations are recommended. Located at 500 Ala Moana Boulevard in Honolulu, you can visit the website for Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Honolulu at http://www.ruthschris.com/locations/honolulusteakhouse.html

Hy’s Steakhouse is one of the most popular steakhouses in Honolulu. Located at 2440 Kuhio Avenue near Waikiki Beach, Hy’s Steakhouse is difficult to miss. Because of its terrific location, Hy’s Steakhouse is often very busy, and reservations are definitely recommended. The atmosphere is a bit formal, and proper attire is required (for gents, collared shirts and long pants will do fine). In addition to offering a full bar, Hy’s Steakhouse also boasts an “extensive ‘Wine Spectator’ award-winning wine list that will please almost any palate.” At Hy’s Steakhouse, you can also experience live music, as island legend Audy Kimura performs Wednesday through Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The restaurant serves dinner daily from 6 p.m. ro 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Hy’s Steakhouse in Honolulu offers a savory selection of steaks, including the Porterhouse T-Bone, New York Strip, Delmonico and filet mignon, in addition to a wide variety of Continental and Pacific Rim specialties for those not in the mood for beef. Many describe the steaks at Hy’s Steakhouse as the best on the Hawaiian Islands, and their desserts are insanely good. Hy’s Steakhouse features a glassed-in grill room that adds some flavor itself to the upscale decor. Overall, Hy’s Steakhouse offers one of Honolulu’s best fine dining experiences. Morton’s Steakhouse is another well-known steakhouse chain that offers elegant dining and unforgettable steaks. Located at 1450 Ala Moana Boulevard in Honolulu’s Ala Moana Center, the food is a tad expensive and some complain about vegetables and potatoes costing extra. However, the steaks themselves can easily make you forget about all that. Choose between the double-cut filet mignon (my favorite here), the Porterhouse or double Porterhouse, the New York Strip, the Ribeye, and the Prime Rib. For the lighter appetite, Morton’s Steakhouse offers “slightly smaller” steaks. And their desserts are nearly as delicious as their steaks, so save room. You can find Morton’s and even make online reservations at its website: http://www.mortons.com/website/index.html

There you have it, the best steakhouses in Honolulu. I hope to read your comments if you decide to give one or all of them a try.
