Erie, PA offers residents and visitors alike a variety of places to cool off on the hot days of summer and one that can even be used on the coldest of days. Each location is vastly different from the others and everyone is bound to find a park that fits their needs. One commonality which runs through all three is that they all involve water in one form or another and allow all those willing to cool off fast, as well as participate in other activities.

The list below details the three main water attractions in Erie, PA and outlines just what each has to offer.

Presque Isle
If on a hot summer day you want to be outside and in the environment the best place for you to cool down is Presque Isle, also known as “the peninsula”. Presque Isle is one of the only beaches in the state and has much to offer. The Peninsula has 11 beaches and other water access points, each of which is slightly different. Some of the beached are primarily for swimming, others for on land recreation, and still others for other water recreation such as wind surfing. The water is always comfortable and relaxing, particularly on hot summer days and offers a no cost alternative to theme parks. The park also has other activities like beach volleyball and trails which can be used for walking, biking, and roller blading.

Waldameer Park and Water World

Waldameer Park and its companion park Water World are located at 220 Peninsula Drive and have a fantastic local water park complex to entertain visitors. Sprawled across a large area, Waldameer Park and Water World are located very near the entrance to Presque Isle. The theme park is free to enter while all those wishing to enter the water park, including babies, must have a paid admission.

Water World has much to offer and is a very welcome relief to hot days which want to be spent in an atmosphere in which you control the pace. One of the favorite rides of guests at Water World is the Endless River, a continuous attraction with no defined start or end which contains various water features to keep riders entertained. Another popular ride is the twin speed slides which send riders hurling downwards at very high speeds. Other rides include a tad pool for small children, an adult hot tub, and many other open and closed tube and body slides. Among the great non-water features of water world are bath houses with private changing stalls, a gift shop, several different eating establishments available with out leaving the water park, and many chairs for the lounging enjoyment of park patrons.

After you cool down, the attached Waldameer Park has fantastic rides, shows, and food. Attractions range in intended age from young children through adults. Rides include roller coasters, bumper cars, as well as many other options.

Splash Lagoon

Perhaps you don’t want to be out side at all but still feel like cooling down? If this is the case, then the newest water attraction to be added to the area is the place for you. Splash Lagoon is a completely indoor water park built in Summit Township at the intersection of Peach Street and Interstate 90. Although this water park is the most expensive of the three listed here, Splash Lagoon offers the most up to date and thrilling water rides available. Having been open for only a few years, this water park also has the most clean changing facilities. One of the nicest features of this indoor thrill center is that no matter the outside weather or temperature, Splash Lagoon is always a constant temperature both in the air and in the water. If you’re visiting from out of town, the water park is directly connected to several hotels. The hotels also offer discounts for guests who stay at the hotel and visit the aquatic attraction. If you’re hungry while you’re at the park, visit one of the several attached eating establishment to enjoy a variety of different foods.

No matter what the weather or the occasion is, there is always somewhere in Erie to get soaked.
