The Transformation of Vivica A. Fox

There she was, Dancing With The Stars, completely in her zone, looking serene, seductive and all grown up. I wondered as I caught the second episode of the reality based dance off, where was that ‘In Your Face’ bragadeer of a character she had become leading up to the days of 50 cent, those tight, barely there hoochie mama dresses and ‘All Up In The Club’ persona that were being shown to fans, friends ,family and perhaps, foes alike? Who was this Vivica A. Fox, a woman who admittedly had plastic surgery, lip enhancements and Rhinoplasty, all for the sake of glitz, glamour and media attention? Stars must be seen, heard and photographed, otherwise; What’s the point?

I know, it sounds like I’m hating on Vivica. Truly, I’m not. Let me have my say. Vivica , I’m sure was representing. She have many young and not so young women in the world who’re out here wanting to be like Vivica. Admittedly, back in the days of Soul Food, The Movie; Why Do Fools Fall In Love and yes, even, Booty Call, I was seeing myself identifying with me some Vivica and I’m sooo many years older than this vixen, however, I’m not bad to look at myself, but, I’ve never felt the need to ‘hold back the hands of time.’ But, and this is a biggie, I’m no Celebrity. Nope, I’m just a normal mother, grandmother, wanna- be-writer, who feeds herself by nursing and caring for the sick and elderly ; praying to reach their stature of wisdom and grace.

I suppose looking at things from Vivica A. Fox’s perspective; Her livelihood depends on maintaining her focus which in essence becomes her body; her looks; her persona. In trying to be fair here, I must remember that this woman is a Leo. Born July, 30th. She is definitely; Vain. I know this because my very first true love was a Leo (God rest his soul) and for the life of me, that man stayed in the mirror, primping and preeming and hee hawing more than a donkey delivering another ass! I had given up ever having the urge to reconnect with Ms. Fox, after she became the older sister of hip hop. I mean, come on/ I’m liking me some 50 cent too, as well as a few of my girls, but, 50 and other hip hop dudes who are just dripping in grills and bling; I got news for ya; I’d rather ‘NOT’ date ya…

I had given up on Vivica A. Fox, but, then, I caught her on ‘Dancing With The Stars.’ She was all toned down 40 something ,old school glamour. She emanated the elegance of Lauren Bacall; The spunk of Cicely Tyson and the grace and beauty of Dorothy Dandrige. Whether or not she wins, or, loses in the competition; I believe that Vivica has won in the hearts of all of us who once doubted her finding the way to embracing the beauty that shines from within…
