The Unique Role of an Educated Goddess
So now that we have revealed the problem, lets set the scene. I awake every day to the same rush of concern. The first step – what to wear! If I have no exposure to clients I can get away with a cotton blouse and khaki slacks – throw on some heels and I am good to go and it is Monday, God I hate Mondays. I am filled with the need for this comfortable wardrobe, but wait, don’t I have a client meeting today. Let’s see, planner, planner – where is my planner! I find it to realize, shit, I have a meeting with not 1 but 2 clients. This is a suit day. So I thumb through my closet for my best suit and look at the clock. YIKES! I have spent 30 minutes trying to find a wardrobe, while my husband has showered, dressed, and is out the door in 10 – looking perfectly polished. I push back my anger at being born a woman and sprint to the shower. After performing an award winning juggling act of shaving while standing, I finally am ready for the rest of my routine. Lets see – lotion all of body, deo, perfume, make-up, dry hair, curl hair, and brush hair. Then, without hesitation, I pin my hair up (business professional of course). I glance at the clock again – 20 minutes behind. Finally I get dressed and run downstairs to remember that I have not walked the dog. I scream my dogs name to look down and see her standing diligently beside me. After 10 minutes of waiting I am finally ready to go. I head to my car and turn on the traffic report. “A 4-car pileup has traffic backed up on 400 – give yourself an extra 45 minutes to get through this.” You have got to be kidding me!!! I finally arrive to work – 10 minutes late and check my messages. “Ms. West, I just wanted to let you know that your meetings have been cancelled for today.” Surprise, surpriseâÂ?¦I turn to my desk to begin yet another day in the life of a successful educated goddess.
For those, like me, working diligently to get ahead in this fast-paced world, take a moment to remember who you are and what is important to you. As we approach the memorial of one of the most tragic days in the history of our beloved county, set back and appreciate the brilliance of life – so special, so memorable, but most importantly, so short. So be a woman. Break out your best heels, your cutest skirts, and let down your hair. May your shoes, purses, and lipsticks forever match. J
