The World Showcase at EPCOT Center
The first highlights of EPCOT Center’s World Showcase have to be the two boat rides that can be found at the Norway Pavilion and the Mexico Pavilion. In Norway, you’ll go back in time to discover the Vikings on an exciting boat ride called the Maelstrom. Watch out for those three-headed trolls. For a kinder, gentler ride on the water, head over to Mexico for a fun, “It’s a Small World” type experience called the River of Time. Browse in both Norway’s and Mexico’s gift shops for reasonably priced souvenirs.
If you want a quick bite to eat at EPCOT Center’s World Showcase, head over to the good ol’ USA Pavilion and grab some All-American burgers, hot dogs and fries at the Liberty Inn. If you’re feeling a little more daring, make your way to merry old England and the Rose & Crown Dining Room, an authentic pub and restaurant where you can enjoy some good food and a pint of ale.
If you’ve ever tried and disliked Canadian beef (I have), I suggest you skip Le Cellier Steakhouse at the Canada Pavilion. Likewise, the all-you-can-eat German buffet at Biergarten Restaurant at the Germany Pavilion. Of course, it all depends on your tastes. If you like Chinese food, head over to the China Pavilion and the Nine Dragons Restaurant. The food is spectacular.
The France Pavilion offers two signature dining experiences: Bistro de Paris and Les Chefs de France. It’s a bit pricey, but if this is as close as you’ll come to Paris for a while, make a reservation early in the day, because they both get booked up fast year round. Same with L’Originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante at the Italy Pavilion. Great food…if you can get a table.
Check out the architecture of the pavilions at Japan and Morocco. And finally, stick around for the nighttime entertainment. Gather around the World Showcase Lagoon for IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. Watch breathtaking fireworks set to a stunning soundtrack. It’s an experience you’ll never forget.
EPCOT Center’s World Showcase has gift shops in each country, with souvenirs ranging from a couple bucks to several thousand. So bring your Visa card, but I wouldn’t go shopping after a few pints at Rose & Crown.
