This Year’s Fall Fashion Outlook

Whether you are dressing for work or a night out on the town, it is important to look your best. Making a good impression could help you score that hot date or dream job. The fashionable looks of this fall are going to be easy for anyone to pull off, no matter what age, height, or shape. In fact, you may already have this season’s must haves in your closet.

When dressing for work or a key interview, it is important to dress for success. But dressing for success doesn’t mean that you have to dress conservatively. This season sweater dresses belted at the waist paired with knee high boots, and a mid length coat are the at work must haves for the season. Sweater dresses with cowl or turtle necks, and long sleeves seem to be the hot item. Wearing a thin leather belt will help accentuate your waist line. If you are thinking of wearing a sweater dress make sure you get the right length. This season the length of your dress should be about 1-2 inches above the knee.

Color and fabric are also very important factors in choosing appropriate outfits for work. Like every other fall corduroy is the must have fabric. Whether it is a corduroy mid length jacket, pants, or hat it is a fabric you should integrate into your wardrobe. Plush fabrics like velvet and velour are out, while angora, chenille, and satin are in this fall. Cream, white, and browns are the colors of fall, as well as rich reds, deep greens, and deep blues. Avoid bright reds, orange, and yellow. In fall it is best to wear earthy colors that compliment the rich colors of the season.

If you are headed out for a night on the town be prepared. Satin fabrics, straight legged pants, and natural hair seem to be the rage this fall. If you are dancing and dining there are several classic looks that you can pull off. Satin tops in burgundy, emerald green, navy blue, cream white are must haves if you are hitting the clubs and restaurants this fall. Silver accents like beaded belts with satin ties, rhinestones, silver bangles, headbands, and brooches are perfect accessories to go with those satin tops. Remember less is more when choosing accents and accessories. Gold, silver, rhinestone, or sequin handbags are perfect for this fall.

Straight legged pants are also another must have this fall. Whether they are black, white, or brown they will be perfect. Choosing the right length is also very important. If your pants are too short your ankles will show, which is a definite fashion don’t, unless it is summer. If your pants are too long they will drag on the ground and probably be covered in dirt by the end of the night. Choose comfortable fitting pants that are the appropriate length for you. Anything that is too short, too big, or too tight will make you look ridiculous.

When you are getting ready for work or to go out, it is not just about what you are wearing. What your hair looks like will determine whether you get that job or hot date. For ethnic women, this season it is all about natural. If you have big curly hair be proud of it! For work pull your curls back into a ponytail at the base of your neck. Silver, leather, or rhinestone hair accents are all the rage. Dress your hair up for work with a leather headband or some silver barrettes. If you are going out wear your hair down. Think big, think Diana Ross. Wear your full curls and let them fall naturally around the crown of your head. Dress it up with some rhinestone bobby pins or a silver headband.

If you have straight or thin hair wear it down. Curl the ends of your hair with a curling iron or hot rollers, and then run your fingers through it to add volume. If you want a more classic look, use hot rollers on your entire head and then brush and style your hair. Doing this will give you waves and big curls at the bottom of your hair. Use a classic side part keeping your hair out of your face. This fall wearing your hair down is a must, but if it is in your face it is a don’t. If you cover your eyes or forehead with hair people will not be able to see your face. If you are going out, try a high ponytail with a rhinestone clip. Wearing a bun a little to the left or right side of the back of your head will also make an instant impact. If you wear an up-do dress it up with diamond or rhinestone earrings, or pearls.

Wearing the right shoe is also very important. This season it is mauve colored pumps, white flats, and boots of all styles. when picking out shoes choose a pointed or slightly rounded toe, square toes are definitely out. Suede and leather are this seasons must haves in the shoe department. When choosing pumps choose an accent color for your shoe. For example if you are wearing beige pants, a burgundy jacket, and a cream colored shirt with a brown leather belt, then wear a shoe that is slightly pink or purple in color. This will add a bright accent while keeping you in the realm of this seasons hot colors. White flats that adorn belts or rhinestones are also one of the must haves this fall. When it comes to boots there are lots of choices. Cowboy boots, high heeled ankle boots, and high heeled knee length boots are a hot items for this fall. Wearing boots in a dark brown, black, or dark red will help make an instant impression. Always choose “real” materials like leather or suede, man made materials don’t last as long.

Now that your fashion is in order, you must not forget about makeup. As with accessories, less is more. Each season the colors of your make up should change. Instead of wearing bright pinks, whites, blues, and greens choose colors that are more earthy. Brown eyeliner, gold eyeshadow, dark rouge, and red lips are must do’s for fall. If you are going to accent your cheeks, wear a darker colored rouge and clear lip gloss. If you are going to accent your eyes use dark browns for eyeshadow, and accentuate even more with bright colors like gold. Black mascara is always a must, but curl your eyelashes first for added length. If you wish to accent your lips wear dark red lipstick and only mascara. When accentuating your lips it is important that the rest of your face does not overpower. Wear little or no rouge and only make up the eyes with brown eyeliner, and mascara. Just remember less is more.

Remember to avoid the three biggest fashion don’ts. Don’t wear clothes that are too tight, big, or too short. Less is more when using make up and accessories. Stay away from yellow, bright reds, and orange. Cool colors like navy blue, cream white, brown, beige, emerald green, and deep reds are the must have colors this season. Thick and chunky heels are finally out, while pointed stilettos and flats are the must. Wear comfortable fitting clothes that are appropriate for where you are going, whether it is the club or work.
