Thoughtful Wedding Gifts

Everyone has heard the jokes about the 14 toasters they received for wedding gifts. Instead of buying your friend the usual crockpot toaster or single teaspoon from her chosen pattern try some of these gifts that might actually be used. Instead of gathering dust in the attic. Newly married couples cannot live on toast alone. Ok, maybe they can, but I do remember running to the store many times during the first year of marriage to pick up one or two little items that I’d forgotten to buy and desperately needed.

What about tools? Every household needs simple tools like a hammer, flashlight, screwdriver and wrench. A Box of light bulbs, duct tape, assorted nails and screws, emergency candles and Crazy Glue Use your imagination to think of things that every household needs…Put these in a small toolbox and your friend will have a good start.

A gift basket of cleaning items. It’s hard enough to set up a new household without having to take the time and extra money required to buy things like all purpose cleaner, glass cleaner sponges, dish washing liquid a bucket a mop broom and dustpan are all items that will be used and appreciated.

Place everything in the bucket and the bucket in a nice big gift bag and you have just saved the bride and groom a lot of time and money.

The kitchen can always use small gadgets such as mixing bowls, measuring cups canisters and smaller items such as a hand held can opener, potholders and cork screw. Maybe even some sponges dish towels paper towels, foil, cling wrap wax paper and Zip Loc baggies. . Place all these items into a nice big gift bag or even better a recycling container or kitchen sized trash can.

Don’t forget the Bathroom Shampoo, conditioner, soap, disposable razors and antiperspirant, facial tissues toilet tissue a small first aid kit, Tylenol or Advil. And an assortment of over the counter remedies will save the new couple money and time. Place all of these items in a clothes basket or hamper to complete the gift.

Try remembering when you started out a new household and all the little things you had to buy. Everything from thumb tacks to trash bags. These things take a considerable chunk of money and time toaquire. From Nail clips to scissors your friend will no doubt appreciate the thoughtfulness of your gifts.

You can apply this to other rooms and areas of the house by choosing an office gift basket or a laundry room gift with laundry soap fabric softener stain remover clothes hangers and a clothes basket or hamper with wheels.

It always takes time to settle into a new home so make it easier on the new couple give them a gift card to a local grocery store. It takes quite a bit of money to set up a kitchen with the basics these days. Or you could make a trip to the store yourself and purchase flour sugar salt a few spices pasta and pasta sauce and whatever else comes to mind when you think of staples.

Give the new couple a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant. Newly married couples don’t usually have a lot of time for cooking. Just make sure the restaurant has a take out service…
