Three Christian Stores to Find Bibles in Raleigh
For those who are interested in buying from a store dedicated to Christian works Raleigh does have some interesting selections.
Cokesbury Books is a store associated with the United Methodist Publishing House. The local United Methodists who inhabit Raleigh in large numbers are encouraged by their pastors to frequent the store. If you are of a somewhat liberal Protestant persuasion this is a good choice. The store has specific offerings for United Methodists, Disciples of Christ, Episcopalians and Presbyterians. It is conveniently located near a Goodwill drop-off center; affording us good Christians an opportunity to practice what we preach by dropping off something for the needy on our way to buying a nice Christian book. The store has an excellent large selection of books, gifts and religious items.
The store itself is also located near a competing Christian book store and numerous small shops and restaurants.

Next door is another Christian book store called “Sign of the Fish”. It carries a slightly broader choice of materials, yet would be a place where any Liberal/Moderate Christian would feel at home. They stock the same or similar Bibles that you find across all the Protestant religious groups. The difference, if there is one, would be in the authors that make up there selection of titles. Browsing both stores, I did not see much of a difference. I guess the affiliation thing makes a difference to the pastors.
The store claims to be Raleigh’s only Christian Outlet store. I suspect the term outlet allows them to define themselves a little differently then the other stores.
The books in both these stores are good wholesome books for the Christian family. This store, not be affiliated with any one view but carrying the message to everyone, is one of my personal favorites.

For those of the Baptist tradition there are two local stores. One on Capital Blvd and another on the Baptist Seminary in Wake Forest, just a short trip across from the Raleigh City line. These stores now part of the Lifeway Christian Bookstores would carry a more fundamental view of the Christian message. The Bibles will contain the same words, but the books on display will have a more fundamental way of looking at those words. These bookstores at the kind my son prefers to get his reading material. He prefers clear crisp messages in his religious readings.
The store on Capital Blvd has longer hours than the store on the Seminary Campus.
