Tips for Finding Your Lost Pet Hamster

Everybody who has owned a pet hamster has been in the same sitation. You wake up in the morning and when you try to feed the hamster you realize that his cage is a little to quiet for him to be inside of it. Suddenly, you begin to panic. A little tiny furry hamster is running lose through our home! The first thing need to do is lock up the cat and the dogs. You will want to check the room that the cage is in first. Check in every possible place that a hamster could fit into. Check under beds, behind dressers, closets and under clothes. You will want to pick up everything on the floor, shake it, and place it on the bed. If you check the first room and you do not see him, check it again. Once you are certain he’s not in that bedroom, move to the next room that’s closest.

Check in all of your closets and the bathroom. Keep an eye out for little hamster poop. If you have large, older register vents you might want to check inside of those and check the filter infront of the furnace. If you have a clothes hamper in your room he might have crawled into there. If you cannot find the hamster anywhere there is a chance that he might have gotten eaten by one of your larger pets. Don’t assume that he is not alive. Keep looking and keep an eye out for a fast little furry creature that runs by you at one hundred miles per hour.

You could also set up mouse traps (that don’t kill) around your house to see if you can catch the hamster. Buy the kind that he can crawl into but not get out of. Then you need to remember to check it because without water the hamster will most likely die. Check under your stove, refridgerator and all other appliances. You will also want to use a flashlight and check under your furniture. Chances are that there are places that you haven’t looked. Get down on your knees and look for areas that might intrigue a hamster. Sooner or later you are bound to find the hamster when he wakes up and comes out of hiding.

If it’s been several weeks and you can’t find the hamster, chances are somewhat good that he has gotten stuck somewhere or eaten. It’s a horrible thing to think about but it happens a lot. Hamsters are excellent at escaping any cage no matter how well it was put together. They were basically made to escape. If hamsters were put in prison there wouldn’t be an prisoners because the hamsters would be gone the first night. It’s a hard thing to think about and deal with but there’s nothing that you can possibly do but hope, look harder and wait.
