Top 5 Circular Saws for Do-it-Yourself Homeowners

Are you in the market for a new circular saw? If so, you may want to consider perusing my list of the top five circular saws for do-it-yourself homeowners. Here it is:

Rockwell 4-Volt 3 3/8 inch VersaCut Mini Circular Saw

The corded Rockwell 4-Volt VersaCut Mini Circular Saw made my list because of its size and weight. It comes with 3 3/8 inch diameter blades, weighs 4 pounds and is easy to control. In my opinion, it is perfect for small home repair and improvement projects. The downside is that it doesn’t have electric brakes or a spindle lock. As such, it takes a few seconds for the blade to stop. It tends to sell for $130 through major home improvement stores.

Dewalt 18-Volt 6 ½ inch Circular Saw

I would recommend that homeowners looking to complete a large home improvement job consider investing in the cordless Dewalt 18-Volt 6 ½ inch Circular Saw. It has 6 ½ inch blades, electric brakes and a spindle lock. It also weighs a modest 6.3 pounds and typically comes with a 90 day money back guarantee. The downside is that it doesn’t come with a dust collection unit. You can generally purchase the saw through home improvement stores for $120.

Milwaukee Lithium-Ion 18-Volt 6 ½ inch Circular Saw

I also like the Milwaukee Lithium-Ion 18-Volt 6 ½ inch Circular Saw. It weighs 9 pounds and comes with great features like electric brakes. Other notable features include a spindle lock, 45 degree bevel capacity and a trigger switch. What I don’t like is that it doesn’t come with a dust collection unit. You can typically purchase the saw for $120.

Makita LXT Lithium-Ion 18-Volt 6 ½ inch Circular Saw

In my experience, the cordless Makita LXT Lithium-Ion 18-Volt 6 ½ inch Circular Saw is worthy of consideration as well. It usually sells for less than $100 through home improvement stores. Hence, it is a great option for the budget conscious. I like it because it has 6 ½ inch blades, a spindle lock and a three year manufacturer’s warranty. It weighs 7.3 pounds. The downside is that it does not have an electric brake or a dust collection unit.

Skil 120-Volt 7 ¼ inch Circular Saw with Laser Beam

Last but not least, the Skil 120-Volt 7 ¼ inch Circular Saw made my list because of its price and features. It typically sells for $90 and comes with a dual beam laser. Other features that I appreciate are the spindle lock, the keyless blade change and the 51 degree bevel capacity. The downside is that the saw weighs over 14 pounds. As such, it can be cumbersome to carry around. It also does not have electric brakes.
