Top Date Ideas for Wilkes-Barre

When it comes to dating in the greater Wilkes-Barre area, there are many alternatives. This article will highlight some ideas for a date night, based on the personality of the couple.

The Romantic Date
Wilkes-Barre has its share of fine dining. For that extra romantic touch, pick up flowers at one of the area’s stop florists like Mattern’s -perhaps a nice exotic bouquet-on the way to pick up the date. The fancy restaurant will then take over with their service. Here are some places to choose from:

Tony Stello’s Goodfello’s, Susquehanna Avenue, Exeter
Thyme Restaurant, The Woodlands, Route 315, Wilkes-Barre
Bistro Bistro- Wyoming Avenue, Kingston
Oyster- Market Street, Wilkes-Barre
Gelpiaz- Wyoming Avenue, Kingston
The Saber Room- Wilkes-Barre

The Adventurous Date
It was once said that adrenaline can cause sparks to fly on a date. So, perhaps a date where a little adrenaline can get cranked up is the way to ensure a successful night on the town. Downtown Wilkes-Barre is home to a rock climbing gym, which makes for all the ingredients for a date: closeness, helping and even a little sweat. Toss in a few beers at a local downtown bar like Keenan’s or Lowe’s will finish things off!

The Sports Fan Date
Depending on the season, the sporting event may change-but local sports are huge in Wilkes-Barre. And, hockey seems to be at the top of the sport scene locally. For a fun date, take in a game of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins hockey, while sharing some concession stand food and beers. When hockey is off season, there are always the AF2 football games with the Pioneers or baseball with the Red Barons.

The Party Date
There is not much more of a party in Wilkes-Barre than the Woodland’s Five Day Happy Hour. For $10 each, the couple can have all the drinks they can handle, some finger foods and live music-all taking part in various bars in the complex. After the happy hours, the party continues in the Evolution nightclub at the Woodlands. The Woods is best known for being a place for singles to go to hook-up-scaring off those in committed relationships-but that’s just a reputation. Fun couples can still have a killer time-you just may need to call a cab home.

The Outdoors Date
Outside the city limits of Wilkes-Barre, there are several great state parks, such as Rickett’s Glen, Moon Lake and Francis Slocum. Put on some comfy clothes, sneakers or boots and head off to hike, boat and picnic at one of these parks. The wilderness can be quite romantic!

The Corner Bar Date
Wilkes-Barre and surrounding area is filled to the gills with cozy corner bars. One of-it not the best-is Hops and Barely’s in Luzerne, just over the bridge. This bar/restaurant offers a wonderfully huge and tasty menu of bar munchies straight up to surf-n-turf-until 1:00am. A couple can enjoy dinner in the dining room, and then move into the bar area to enjoy the rest of the night with a familiar crowd, great bartenders and good jukebox jams. Other good corner-type bars with great food include Old Tyme Charley’s, CafÃ?© 99 and Leary’s.

The Classic Date
The classic standby of dinner and a movie will never die! Especially since Wilkes-Barre just celebrated the grand opening of the new downtown theater, RC’s Wilkes-Barre Movies 14. Situated in convenient downtown, the couple can park once and enjoy dinner at local Japanese Hibachi and sushi place, the fabulous Katana and then take in a new movie.
