Top Ranges Under $400

If you have not recently had your stove or oven go out, then you may not have taken a stroll through the range aisle of your local large appliance dealer. Buying large appliances may seem to be a very grueling and dreaded process, but it does not have to be. I recently had the opportunity to evaluate the new GE 30-inch Freestanding Electric Range, model JBP22BKWH, and I have to tell you, if you have not considered having a new electric range installed, you might want to think about it now. This GE range is not only sleek and stylish, but it is priced under $400, making it a steal in regards to large kitchen appliances.

The GE range that I checked out was white in color, and measured 46-7/8 inches in height, 29-7/8 inches in width, and 27-3/4 inches in depth. If you decide on going with this model, do not forget to measure the space where you plan to install it. It may sound silly, but many folks just go to the store, load up a new appliance and then find out later that it does not fit in the space intended.

On the exterior of this unit, you will find the QuickSet III Oven Controls, which are not only built around precision, but they make setting the desired cooking temperature a breeze. There are chrome drip bowls around and below the burner elements that aid in containing any spills you may have while cooking, and the drip bowls are completely removable for quick and easy cleaning. The actual cooktop itself is porcelain upswept, which consists of raised edges along all sides of the cooktop, which helps keep any unwanted spills from dripping down the sides of the stove. This is all part of the CleanWell Cooktop System that GE has developed, which makes the entire cooktop easier to manage and keep clean. When it comes to cooking, this GE unit is equipped with a removable plug-in element that provides thorough heating for your cooktop. When it is time to clean the elements, you can simply extract them with ease.

At the front of the oven, you will find the traditional oven door, which in this case, is a frameless glass door. The glass is incredibly easy to keep clean and adds character and style to the entire unit. This also includes the GE developed ClearView Window, which is built into the door, that allows you to conveniently monitor the items you have cooking inside the oven. Keep in mind that this model boasts a very accommodating oven space. You can easily fit large dishes and multiple dishes at once for cooking. There are also six available rack positions so that you can easily raise and lower racks to accommodate any size of dishes.

As most good oven do, this model has the self-clean oven option, which provides you with the ability to clean your oven with one simple touch of a button. The only thing we did not like about this model was the fact that there was no timed bake option like other ovens and also no delayed start option. Also, the power cord for this freestanding electric range is not included in the purchase! You will have to purchase that separately. On the upside, when you buy this model, it comes with a manufacturer’s full one year warranty that covers the entire appliance, and any parts and labor required should it break. In the end, I would highly recommend this range. If you are on a budget, you can hardly beat the quality for the price.
