Treasure Hunting at Flea Markets in South Carolina

What I have noticed at the flea markets here in South Carolina is that you can find almost anything you are looking for. From old magazines to antique furnishings there is a lot to offer just by browsing. There are even lots open with fresh fruits and vegetables for very good prices. You can find music CDs of any artist in the history of music and movies whether it is VHS or DVD. Most flea market days are Saturday and Sundays but there are flea markets that stay open throughout the week. Discussed below are some of the experiences I have had while going to these Flea Markets.

First of all if you are looking for anything in particular then write a list down of what you are looking for. In my case I was looking for two square paintings to complement two paintings of Notre Dame and The Seine River. Well much to my surprise I found two pictures painted by a different painter of the same subjects. This goes to show you that the flea markets have quite a selection of different items up for sale. The best way to start is at the entrance and start browsing through each stall.
This browsing I call a treasure hunt because it is possible to find a hidden treasure such as a 1916 D mercury dime or a painting by Monet or a first edition of Jane Austen novel. It is possible to find such treasures but you have to know what you are looking for. As in everything do some research and set some goals to what you want to attain. Whether this is coins, books, or music. A friend of mine went in search of a Rolling Stones record to complete her set and came away with that particular album.

There are two kinds of flea markets and they are the indoor kind and the outdoor markets. The indoor flea markets are usually called Jockey lots mainly because there is an abundance of clothing stalls. But there is a lot more than just clothes though, antiques and furniture of all kinds. Jewelry and books and music of every kind and there are break areas where you can get a bite to eat and then continue shopping. The outdoor flea markets usually have one area where one can get food and drink. All of the stalls are outside and in some cases the vendor places blankets down and puts their wares on the blanket when there are no more stalls left.

The southern flea markets are a kind of show and buy market. You see the wares that are offered and if you want it you buy it. Sometimes you can barter or haggle with the vendors to lower the price but always be courteous and polite. The flea markets in South Carolina can be fun and sometimes exciting. Each town has its own type of flea market so when you are passing through South Carolina especially on a weekend and you see a sign of Flea Market, stop on by and have some fun shopping.
