Using Lattice Panels in Outdoor Designs

Adding curb appeal ( a pleasant landscaped appearance) to your property and landscaping can add dollars to your home investment. Many home improvements will raise your property value, thus increasing your equity. This can be very important if you are planning to sell your home, or are just trying to increase your net worth. Curb appeal is important because the outside of your home is the first thing potential buyers see if you are trying to sell. Many different outdoor designs will add curb appeal. Using lattice work panels to improve the overall design of your curb appeal is a fun and relatively easy way to boost the overall appearance of your outdoor property.

Build a small lattice work fence across the front of your property for privacy and a stylish look. You’ll simply need to measure off your property and figure out how many lattice panels you will need.. Keeping your fence at around 4 foot tall will save money, as the panels come in 4 X 8 sheets and you can lay them sideways. You’ll need 2 X4’s to make a frame for the lattice work, some quick cement to secure the posts and trim work to go around the lattice once it is nailed into place. Home improvement centers online can give you complete printable instructions if you are a novice.

If that is to ambitious of a project you can build a single panel lattice in your flower garden for climbing vines and flowers. Just sink two 2 x4’s into the ground standing upright and secure them with quick cement. Make sure they are positioned far enough apart to nail a 4 X 8 sheet of lattice work to. Nail the lattice work to the structure and you have a whole new garden design.

This same idea will also work to add some privacy to a porch or entry way of your home. Use the same technique of sinking the 2 X 4’s into the ground. For this one you may want to add short 2 x 4’s at the top and bottom of the frame for a more finished design to your lattice privacy panel. Fasten the lattice work to the 2 x 4 frame ad add decorative trim to finish this off. Paint the structure to match your home colors or leave it natural and stain it.

Small white pieces of lattice work will enhance any area of your outdoor landscaping. Use pieces to fill in under open porches by simply nailing the lattice to the existing framework. Lattice work can become an interesting little flower garden fence, using small pieces of 1 X 2″ lumber. Cut the lumber in about 2 feet lengths. Pound these length into the ground in a row about 4 feet apart and about 6″ into the ground. Measure everything off to suit your own taste.

Cut the lattice work sheets crossways into lengths you have decided on and nail it to your little frame work. You have an instant edging for your flowerbeds. You can also use this design idea to make small squares to nail the lattice work to. This will protect small shrubbery or trees from potential death by lawnmower.

As you can see there are many different ways to enhance your outdoor design, by simply getting creative with some lattice work panels and some lumber. Lattice work comes in either wood or plastic. The plastic is carefree as for as painting, but if it breaks you will need to replace the entire section. Personally, I like the wooden lattice, as you can change your paint theme to change your design appearance.

Try some simple lattice work projects in your own yard, and see if you don’t just love the new curb appeal it has given to your outdoor designs. Start small. If you are not a big project fan and want something really easy, just cut the 4X8 sheets of lattice work straight down the middle and make 2 X 8 foot strips. Lean these strips against the side of your garage or house and plant your flowers right in front of them. An instant design that can easily be moved for fall cleaning of the flower beds.
