Using the Right Incense for Your Witchcraft Spells

Scented incense can be a great addition to any witchcraft spell or magickal work you perform. If possible, you will want to choose the right scent to add more power to your spell.

Following are some common incense scents, and what types of spells they can be used for:

Sage – sage scented incense is great for clearing the air, neutralizing negativity, and promoting a more peaceful atmosphere.

Myrrh – myrrh incense is wonderful for healing spells, self-love rituals, or any type of calming meditation.

Sandalwood – sandalwood incense has protective properties, and can be used in spells to banish negativity, repel evil, and make you feel more safe and secure.

Frankincense – frankincense incense is a great “clearing” incense and can help to create a calm, peaceful atmosphere in your home. It’s helpful in healing spells and enhancing mental clarity.

Lavender – lavender incense is great for lifting your mood, making you feel happy, joyful, and optimistic. It can also be used in love spells, prosperity spells, and fertility spells.

Gardenia – gardenia incense is wonderful for promoting peace and tranquility. It can encourage harmony between those who are fighting, and bring a peaceful solution to conflicts.

Cinnamon – cinnamon incense is excellent for prosperity and money spells. It can also be used in protection rituals and spells to enhance your psychic abilities.

Lemongrass – lemongrass incense has a fresh, clean scent that can help enhance your mental awareness. It is great for spells that involve mental clarity, focus, and intelligence. It can also help to open your psychic awareness and promote visions.

Vanilla – vanilla incense is great for love spells, increasing your physical energy, and improving mental alertness. You can also use it to enhance feelings of inner peace and comfort.

Rose – rose incense is often used in love spells, but it is also great for enhancing your psychic awareness, promoting healing and peace in the home, and attracting good luck.

You don’t always have to use incense in spells; you can use it as a magickal aid in any situation. Simply give some thought to the circumstances you want to encourage, and choose a scent of incense that will help bring it into being.

For example, if you want to improve your mental clarity, burn some lemongrass incense while you study. If you feel sluggish and irritable, light some lavender incense and allow the light scent to lift your mood. If your family members are bickering, light some myrrh incense and let the calming scent spread through your home.

If you find yourself in a situation where you don’t have the right scented incense to enhance your spell, it’s okay! Just try to choose something neutral like frankincense, myrrh, or sandalwood, or something light like a floral scent. Or simply burn some sage to help neutralize negativity and add a pleasant scent to the air.

You can also “charge” your incense before lighting it, to help activate the natural properties of the herbs it was made with. Simply hold the sticks or cones gently in your hands, and visualize the outcome you wish to encourage, and let your energy infuse the incense with your intention. Then when you light it, it will release your energy out into the atmosphere as it burns.
