Vertical Wallpaper Border Means a New Look for Your Home

Wallpaper borders have been the lifesaver for many a room. Instead of investing in wallpaper to cover entire walls, many people simply paint the room then add decorative border for a brand new look that’s much cheaper than hanging wallpaper. Borders are still a good decision when you want to redecorate and can’t afford much, but use the border in a different manner and you’ll have a magnificent room that’s very unique.

Wallpaper borders come in so many styles and designs that it’s difficult to choose one then stick with that decision. Since wallpaper border is used horizontally the designs are generally horizontal in nature, but there are many patterns that don’t rely on a horizontal design. These patterns are perfect for the new project.

Choose a wallpaper border that has a design you can use vertically in the room. It’s not necessary that the border have a pattern that runs vertically. Take stripes, for example. If you choose a border that has horizontal stripes you can easily use the same border vertically. After you’ve chosen the perfect border it’s time to start redoing the room.

A fresh coat of paint before adding the vertical border is great, but not an absolute necessity. When you have the room prepped it’s time to start adding the vertical border. Apply vertical border just like you would if you were affixing it horizontally.

You have lots of choices when it comes to hanging the wallpaper border. If you chose stripes, for instance, you can cut each individual stripe out and affix it to the wall, or you can cut the striped border in half, lengthways, then hang it.

The particular room in which you’re doing the new technique plays a large roll in how you want to hang the paper. Small rooms will look too cluttered if you place the border strips very close to one another. Large rooms look fabulous with the vertical border, but if the ceilings are really high, you might want to choose something other than stripes to prevent the room from looking colossal.

You don’t necessarily have to purchase wallpaper border to do this technique in your home. Strips of fabric work just as well and all you have to do is dip them in starch before attaching them to the wall. The fabric will give you lots more choices, is easy to work with, and simply peels off the walls when in need of laundering.

It’s also not necessary to cover an entire wall with border pieces that are spaced somewhat apart – you can run the border pieces down the sides of doors or around window casings without adding it to the rest of the walls. Outlining doors and windows in this manner gives the room a completely different look without much hassle or cost.

The next time you’re considering wallpaper, consider border instead, then consider hanging the border vertically instead of horizontally. You’ll love the new look and so will your guests.
