Vintage License Plate Window Valance

This awesome Vintage License Plate Window Valance is the simplest way to incorporate a vintage car themed design into your home, kitchen, family room, child’s bedroom, or even a home office. A Vintage License Plate Window Valance will add a lot of color and vintage design to any room!

You can find Vintage License Plate Window Valance at your local flea market, antique store, or even on ebay!

If you have some leftover license plates for your old cars, then try making this simple window valance using those!

My favorite feature about this Vintage License Plate Window Valance is that you can easily interchange your Vintage License Plate collection with the simple turn of a screw.

To Make a Vintage License Plate Window Valance You Will Need:

Vintage License Plates (Lots of them)

One 2X10, cut to fit your window

Screws

Primer

Paint

Paint Brush Sand Paper

L Brackets Power Drill

Screws

Wood filler

Now, the first step is to measure how wide your individual window is. I like to make this Vintage License Plate Window Valance stick out about 5 to 6 inches on either side, but that is up to you.

You will also need two pieces of this same board cut to about 4 to 5 inches wide. These will be the sides of your Vintage License Plate Window Valance.

Now, Screw in through the front ends of your long board and attach your two sidepieces of the valance. I like to predrill these holes and then put in my screws so that the boards do not split.

Now, sand your entire wood valance lightly.

Paint on a coat of primer, like Kilz.

Let the primer dry, then paint on a coat of your paint. I like to paint this valance because you will be able to see it behind your Vintage License plates. This is a good time to introduce an accent color into your room. You could also paint this board the same color as your walls if you have any leftover wall paint.

Now, let that paint dry.

Now, start laying your vintage license plates out on the front board. Center one in the middle and work your way out left and right.

Now, mark where all of the holes are in your Vintage Licenses. Use the holes that would normally attach them to your car.

Use your power drill to predrill the holes halfway through the board. Then screw in your screws. I find screw for about $1 for a 2 pack at the hardware store al the time.

You could also add washers to get more design and an industrial look on your Vintage License Plate Window Valance.

Now, use your L brackets to hang the Vintage License Plate Window Valance on the wall. I like to put one L bracket on the left end of the valance and one on the right end of the valance They should be placed on the inside of the side wood pieces. Try to screw into a wood stud if at all possible.

Do this Vintage License Plate Window Valance for every window in your home office, child’s bedroom, or even your garage and you can really display quite a Vintage License Plate collection.

You can also hang curtains from inside of this Vintage License Plate Window Valance by using a tension rod inside of it. The wood sides of the valance will easily support the tension rod.
