Volunteer Oxford Provides a Helping Hand to Local Veterans and Military Families

Students at Oxford College of Emory University in Newton County, Georgia are ready to provide a helping hand to local veterans and military families during the Fall 2013 semester. Through receiving a grant from the Home Depot Foundation, the college students are able to purchase supplies and provide some physical labor to assist with simple home projects. The students are members of Volunteer Oxford, an organization led by three college sophomores that provide opportunities for the Oxford College community to serve. The Volunteer Oxford Coordinators are currently looking for nominations to find projects that will serve and honor local veterans and military families. The projects will begin in August and finish before Thanksgiving.

Nominate a Veteran or Military Family:

Anyone can nominate a veteran or military family by completing a simple nomination form by August 1, 2013. Due to limitations in transportation, Volunteer Oxford students will only be able to select veterans and military families residing in Georgia and living in Newton, Rockdale and Walton counties. The nomination form asks for information about the nominator, nominee, types of project, and why the nominee should be selected.

Types of Projects students can assist with:

  • Painting, interior or exterior
  • Yard work & gardening
  • Home organization or cleaning out storage buildings
  • Other simple projects that don’t require highly skilled labor
