Wedding Story

I was married at sixteen and that’s called statutory rape IF I was married in the USA. To make things worst, I was married to my English professor who I was admittedly infatuated with. The wedding was unlike any other because we first had togo to a judge and I was wearing something like jeans and a red loose blouse. Nothing fancy really. But that was the first wedding called “civil rites” where you can come up dressed you had come from a laundymat and the judge wouldn’t care. The judge did care however when I was asked, before the civil vows, “ARE YOU SURE? ARE YOU REALLY SURE YOU AREN’T BEING FORCED?” . I said “I am sure I am in love”. That was IT.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½

Then came preparations for the “real” wedding. In my country, the REAL wedding in the you have in Church. Since my so-called husband to be was always broke despite his teaching job, it was my grandma who had to spend for the whole wedding. It was held in a rather huge Church, called Sacred Heart Parish, and there I was dressed in a wedding gown styled after that of then Princess Diana, which was fashionable then. I was young and so we looked pretty much like father and daughter as I walked to the altar. The color of the say was pink and all my bridesmaids wore the same, thus, I was the only one wearing white.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½

The complications came during the part when the priest asked us to exchange vows. He repeated twice, ” Are you sure you want to marry this man Edward,?”Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½,Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½looking at me, and yet, he tried not to appear like he was actually addressing me personally. “Yes Father”. My mother an dfather were not present but it was my grandma who forged their consent signature , yes, it was forged, because the law says that one can’t get married at 16 without the consent of ones parents.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½

So the reception was smooth and classy held in a restaurant called Aristocrat which wasn’t REALLY for aristocrats but rather for those who want to be classified as such.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½

During the reception we had one singer who sang “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” as me and my husnad started the dance which is customary in my country. I took a mental note of the singer because he was cute and I wished I was dancing with him while I was actually dancing with my old , yet new husband.

It was a grand wedding. But it isn’t only one day that should be great. It is a whole married life that should “work” and mine did not because it was , in the first place, illegal. Ho neymoon was an agony, I was a virgin, andÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½ I had felt “nailed” while we were supposed to be having the first good night of sex.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½ felt.. being under him. that this marriage, if it was even that, was short of even being a bridge over troubled water.

I tried to make the marriage work, as all good women should, despite the fact that later , the man I married, decided that he desired my maid more. I was younger, prettier and a lot smarter , so I could not figure out why. I felt a tinge of pain when I first heart about it until I knew my wedding was a mistake.¯¿½

The wedding was annuled. Of course Ioved again and it was with that singer at MY wedding that I fell in love with about seven years later. My wedding day was a wedding day that was NEVER meant to be.¯¿½

On a more more personal note (as if this wasn’t personal enough) to my readers (as if a LOT of people would read this), I do not reside in the United States. I am however submitted my entry to “balance that wedding msitake” – with the hope that even if I do win, the cash still can go o my favorite charity.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½

The lesson is clear – – if you’re below 18, you should NEVER get married, despite the romantic idea of a “grand wedding”. You see, weddings do not really matter. It’s can be just one “grand” day in your life – – and nothing more. Or, it can be that one day in your life that you want to keep alive forever in your memories.
