West Paris, Maine Travel Information Guide
Stores in West Paris include the W. Paris General Store, Perham’s, a hardware store, and two convenience stores. The general store sells groceries, deli items, soda, pizza, candy, and other convenience items. It also has a redemption center. Perham’s sells gifts, jewelry, gems, and minerals. It is open most days of the week; the number of days it is open varies depending upon the season and if there is a major holiday. There is a Mobil gas station with a Big Apple convenience store on Route 26. Mallard Mart, which also sells gas, is located on Rt. 26 as well. Two of the convenience stores have bathrooms available to the public. There is also a sporting goods store which sells canoes, among other items.
The rental cabins on Rt. 26 are called “Snow Falls Cabins” and can be rented by the day, week, or month. They are located along the Little Androscoggin River. There are cabins available in different price ranges depending upon the appliances installed and amenities included.
On Rt. 26, across the street from the rental cabins, there is a restaurant which serves lunch and dinner. It offers salads, pasta, seafood, soup, and other types of food. More information can be found on their website, which is located at riverrestaurant.com. There is also a restaurant called “Chowder Barn.” The last time I went to West Paris, the Trap Corner Restaurant was closed, but it may have re-opened by the time you read this.
Near the town office and fire station, there is a small park with covered picnic tables and a soapbox derby hill. A large sign reads “Maine’s first soapbox derby racing hill.” There is also a rest area on Rt. 26 next to the river, called “Snow Falls Rest Area.” It has picnic tables, barbecue units, and a footbridge over the river. Several small waterfalls can be seen in the river.
Just south of the intersection with Route 26 and Main St., there is a deer and elk farm (“Deer Meadow Farm”) which the public is welcome to visit. It is clearly visible from Rt. 26. Other establishments in W. Paris include an auto parts/repair service, post office, church, historical society, elementary school, and nursing home. Nearby towns include Turner, Hartford, and Sumner. A wider variety of food and lodging can be found in the cities of Auburn and Norway/South Paris.
Area newspapers include the Advertiser-Democrat (Norway), The Rumford Falls Times, and the larger Sun-Journal. For more information on the West Paris area, see the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce website, at oxfordhillsmaine.com.
