What Are Girl Guides?
Girls get rid of boredom while learning important life lessons and having a blast! For girls growing up is not all fun and games. Growing up the right way is a world of fun with the Girl Guides. Lord Robert Baden Powell introduced the concept of “scouting” in 1909. The Girl Guide Association was registered one year later in 1910.
What is guiding?
Guiding involves girls who have come together to enjoy an events and project that is over 90 years old. Guiding is enjoyed around the world and your school probably has a Girl Guide group at it. Guiding teaches the principles of morals – especially those of caring for other and doing good turns. Most importantly it is about friendships both locally and abroad. The Girl Guide motto is: ” Be Prepared “. Members are taught to be prepared for anything that life may present them with. Girl Guides can be for anyone, but there are categories for different age groups. If you are:
âÂ?¢ Between 5 and 7 – you are Teddy
âÂ?¢ Between 7 and 10 – you are a Brownie
âÂ?¢ Between 10 and 14 – you are a Guide
âÂ?¢ Between 14 and 25 – you are a Ranger
Who are the teddies?
Teddies are for the younger girls. They learn to care, share and always try. They even have fun teddy picnics.
Who are the Brownies?
Brownies are older elementary school girls. The Brownie Law teaches unselfishness and thoughtfulness. A Brownie is truthful, obedient and cheerful and always put others before herself.
Brownie Promise: I promise that I will do my best, to do my duty, to my God and to my country; to help other people and to keep the Brownie Law.
Brownie Motto: “Lend a hand”
Who are the guides?
When you reach middle school or junior high you become a girl guide. The Guide Law teaches girls to be loyal, trustworthy, helpful, friendly, polite, considerate, caring, brave, cheerful, obedient, thrifty and respectful. Guiding teaches:
� Self discipline
� Service to others
� Home Making
� Personal Fitness
� Creative crafts
� Outdoor know how
� Conservation of living things
What are the Rangers?
Your next step is to become a ranger. A Ranger takes the promise out into the world and is aware of her responsibilities as a young adult. Rangers undertake projects and decide on their own programs.
Many young girl and young women would benefit from becoming a Girl Guide. They will have fun and learn important life skills.
