A form of fencing that has become increasingly popular during recent years has been invisible fencing. This requires a professional installation and your pet must wear a collar at all times. The collar works with the invisible fencing – every time your pet gets too close or goes through the invisible fencing, the collar emits a small electric shock. This is supposed to get your pet to not want to leave your yard. The only problem with this option is that if your pet really has her heart set on getting out, no amount of electric shock is going to keep her contained. Some animals are just that determined.

No matter what material you choose to build your fence out of, you need to make sure the fence can close securely. By using a padlock on the gate, this ensures no neighborhood children can leave it open by accident. When choosing the lock, make sure it is for outdoor use so it will not rust, and the best idea is to get a combination lock. This is a great idea for those times when you are in a big hurry and don’t have time to go searching for the key. Underneath the gate also needs to be protected just in case your pet sees a way out. Bury bricks under the gate so your pet cannot dig out.

Having a place for your pet to run and play is a wonderful idea. As an owner, it is 100% your responsibility to make sure your pet is safe at all times. It doesn’t take long for a dog to dig her way out underneath and out of your yard, so pay attention to her. Frequently inspect your fencing to make sure it isn’t getting warped or damaged in any way.
