Where to Stay in the City of Orange

Orange, California is a great place to stay if you are visiting Southern California or Orange County in particular. Just minutes away from Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm and other attractions and close to the beach as well, Orange is conveniently located for anyone looking for fun in the sun. Downtown Orange is an attraction in and of itself as well, with a charming Old Towne district full of antique stores, local restaurants and coffee shops.
And the good news is that there are plenty of hotels and motels to chose from in Orange!

Doubletree Hotel
100 the City Drive
Orange, CA 92868 US
714-772-8713
(800) 222-8733

This 20-floor, three-star hotel has over 450 rooms and plenty of amenities. Aside from having a full-service restaurant with a breakfast buffet, lunch and dinner, they’ve got a pool, spa, fitness center not to mention volleyball, basketball and tennis courts. Located right next to The Block at Orange, the city’s biggest out door mall/shopping complex/movie theatre, this is definitely one of the most upscale hotels in town. Guest rooms have everything you would expect, big screen TV, room service, etc. Room rates start at $119, although expect them to be higher during peak seasons.

Howard Johnson
1930 E Katella Ave
714-639-3264
800-520-4656

This is a two-star hotel hotel, but it’s still quite nice, and it’s considerably smaller and cheaper than the Doubletree. There are only about 40 rooms and room rates start closer to $65 dollars for two people. Located right off of the 55 freeway, it’s easy to get to, although a few miles further from Disneyland and the airport than some of the other hotels in the area. They have an Olympic-sized outdoor pool, in-room spas and offer a free continental breakfast and a free newspaper in the morning.

Angel Motel
2330 W Chapman Ave.
714-978-3916
Located in downtown Orange close to the famous traffic circle and Chapman University, this small motel has a charming location and a neon sign that’s famous to the local. Unfortunately, the motel itself is famous for the wrong reasons – they don’t take reservations and the guest rooms don’t even have telephones. Rates are about 80 dollars a night, but there are rumors that the motel rents on an hourly basis as well. This is probably not a place to take the kids.

Sky Palm International Lodge
210 N Tustin St.
714-639-6602
This is another small, locally-owned motel which is close (although not in) to Old Towne Orange. It’s not a bastion of luxury, but they do have a swanky neon sign, king-sized beds and telephones and TVs in every room, which is more than Angel Motel can say. They do have a swimming pool, however it was out of service as of this writing. Room rates are among the cheapest in town, however, close to $60.

Ayres Inn
3737 W Chapman Ave.
714-978-9168
Another three-star hotel, Ayres specializes in creating a homey, comfortable environment and have nicer-than-usual furniture in their guest rooms. They also have a pool and complimentary buffet breakfast and are close to the Crystal Cathedral and The Block. You can also book reservations online, and http://www.ayreshotels.com/orange, which is very handy. Room rates are about $100 for a single.
