Why Helen, GA is the Best in the World
Whether you like shopping, getting close to nature, or riding in a horse-drawn carriage, Alpine Helen in North Georgia is the place for you. It has all that and many more things to entertain your taste and quench your thirst for something different. Helen is built around the Chattahoochee river, with anything from small family places to eat, to popular franchises such as Wendy’s.
You can stay at one of its cozy bed and breakfasts, from Bear Creek Lodge and Cabins to Black Forest Bed & Breakfast, both within walking distance from the center of Helen. There are also condos and vacation rentals, as well as cabins you can rent out for a period of time. If you’re looking for something simpler, there are plenty of motels around to offer you a nice deal.
There is much to do in this small town, so make sure you don’t tire yourself out too fast. If you visit between mid-September and early-November, you can attend Oktoberfest, a six-week festival when music and dancing lines the streets of Helen.
Go tubing along the Chattahoochee river, hot-pink or green tube included, for just $3 a person with Helen Tubing. Take a stroll through the shops and museums for some unique sights – glass-blowing shops, faerie figurines, quilts, even daggers and swords. The fountain at the center of the town is the perfect place to rest a bit and enjoy the beauty around you. Just off the main street, you can usually find horse-drawn buggies which you can ride for a small fee. If you’re in luck, you get to be accompanied by a sweet-tempered dachshund. After a long day of fun, head over to the Alpine Mini Golf, a beautiful mini golf course with as much to look at as to do.
Choose from many dining locations. Whether you’re in the mood for fish, grill, live music, or pasta, there’s a place for you. And to satisfy your sweet tooth, visit the Hansel and Gretel Candy Kitchen.
A must to visit is Anna Ruby Falls which marks the place where the Curtis and York Creeks form two incredible waterfalls and join together to form the Chattahoochee river. To reach the falls, you get to walk up a path into the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest, surrounded by nature and the sound of rushing water with the river at your feet.
