Winter Craft Ideas: Snowflake Binder Clips

Whether you are sprucing up a bland cubicle this winter or seasonally decorating a home office, these simple and adorable snowflake binder clips are one tiny accessory that pack a big punch. Make several, or an entire box, as desired.

For this project, you will need:

– Several large binder clips

– Masking tape

– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Catalina Mist

– 1/4 inch thick dark blue craft plastic

– Two inch snowflake shaped stencil

– Fine point permanent marker

– Self healing mat

– Craft knife

– Spray adhesive

– Newspaper or a large brown paper bag

To help assist in cleanup after your snowflake binder clip project is complete, first cover your work area with newspaper or a large brown paper bag that has been disassembled. (This will protect your surface from any over spray or paint drips.)

Wrap all chrome parts of each binder clip using marking tape. Repeat the process with a second coat of tape for added protection.

Spray each of the black portions of the binder clips with two coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Catalina Mist. Wait fifteen to twenty minutes before adding a third coat to each of the clips. Dry overnight before removing the masking tape. (Hint: This may take several times of painting the clips, drying, turning, and painting the opposite side.)

Lay the 1/4 inch thick dark blue craft plastic flat on the self healing mat. Using the two inch snowflake shaped stencil and the fine point permanent marker, trace the shape onto the craft plastic. Cut out the snowflake shape carefully with the craft knife, making sure to trim away any remnants of the permanent marker. Create one snowflake shape per binder clip.

Apply a generous amount of spray adhesive to the back of one plastic snowflake. Adhere to the front of one of the painted binder clips. Repeat with the remaining snowflakes and binder clips. Dry completely.

TIP: For an excellent gift idea, create several of these binder clips. Vary the colors using different shades of blue spray paint and blue or silver plastic craft sheets. Loop a strand of half inch silver satin ribbon through the metal portions of the binder clips. Tie in a bow, and give!

VARIATION IDEA: For a bold look, consider skipping the blue snowflake theme altogether! Consider using bright colors such as pinks, purples, reds, greens, or even oranges for a truly modern appeal!
