Woolite Carpet Pod – Finally, a Carpet Cleaner that Works!

I just moved into a new apartment, and although I really do love my new home, I can’t say I’m a real big fan of having brand new, white carpeting. I live with my older brother and we’re not exactly the two cleanest people on earth, and sure enough within a few days of moving in we got our first carpet stain, so I headed to the store to get something to clean the stain up with.

I haven’t had very good experience with carpet cleaning products in the past, so I must say that I wasn’t really expecting that much when I went to the store. I saw all the usual spray bottles and cans of foam, but a nifty looking little gadget caught my eye. It was called the Woolite Pod (“pod” being short for “portable oxy deep”) and it promised everything I needed to clean my carpet all in one compact package, including cleaning solution, a scrub brush, a sponge, and a grooming tool. At $4.59, it wasn’t the cheapest carpet cleaner available but it certainly wasn’t the most expensive either, so I decided to pick one up and give it a try.

When I got it home, I was very impressed how simple the instructions were. All you have to do is squirt some of the solution from the Woolite Pod onto the carpet stain, use the brush and/or the sponge to work the stain out, then groom {i.e. “fluff”) the fibers using the attached tool. Both my brother and I were impressed by the fact that you don’t need any water with this product, and not having to fill up a bucket and worry about spills is a big plus. Also, no need to vacuum after using this product, as is the case with many carpet cleaners that are on the market today.

Besides for being simple, the Woolite Pod ended up being really effective as well. As soon as you squirt the oxygen-activated solution on the stain, it begins to disappear, and after a few quick passes with the attached plastic bristle-brush, the spot on my carpet was completely gone. There was no chemical odor from the product, either-just a light, clean scent. The area of carpet that I treated dried very quickly, and you can’t even tell there was ever a problem with the carpet now.

I would highly recommend the Woolite Pod for cleaning up small spots or stains on your carpet. However, the small size of the product coupled with the even smaller amount of cleaning solution included means that this product would not be practical to clean a large, high-traffic area with. So in conclusion, use a carpet foam or a professional steamer when trying to clean large areas, but for everyday spots and stains, the Woolite Pod is an extremely handy tool to have around and well worth the small price tag. If you’d like one, you can pick one up at your local grocery store or “big box” retailer for under 5 bucks, and I promise that the next time you have an accidental spill, you’ll be glad that you did!
