WordPress – Adding New Themes

WordPress comes with two default themes when you install in. Those themes are great if you are doing a basic blog but if you want to create a fancy site, then you will need to download a new theme. Adding new themes are pretty easy. And there are many sites that offer free themes.Some of the best WordPress themes can be found on free sites. You may need to edit them just a bit to suit your needs. When I first started with WordPress I couldn’t find anything that I liked. Most of them weren’t the right color. Then I realized that I could easily change the color of the WordPress themes. So you can make changes to the themes if you need to.

Adding New Themes To Your WordPress

Create a folder on your desktop. Use this folder to download the WordPress themes to. You can download more than one WordPress Theme. I have about 20 installed in my WordPress so that I can keep switching back and forth.Find the WordPress themes and download them to the folder on the desktop. Once you have downloaded all the ones you like, go to the folder on the desktop and unzip each file.

Now you will need to upload them to your WordPress Theme folder. You can upload them through your C-Panel or using something like WS-FTP. Upload the WordPress Theme on your desktop to the Theme folder by clicking through the following folders.

/public_html/wp-content/themes

Upload the entire WordPress theme folder on your desktop to the themes folder on your server. When I say the entire folder, I don’t mean the new folder you created on the desktop, I mean each individual folder inside that one.

After you have uploaded the theme, login to your WordPress Control Panel. Now go to Presentation > Themes. There you will see all of the themes that you just uploaded. Click on a theme to change your site to that theme. You may need to make some changes to get the theme the way you want it. You can change the color of the background, text, etc. in the CSS File.
