Working with Your Website Files in Your C-panel

You can use your File Manager in your C-panel to manage your files for your website. You must upload your files to your public_html directory for your website to work. In this tutorial I will show you how to:

  • Upload Files to Your Site


  • View the Contents of a File


  • Delete your Files


  • Create New Files


I will start off by showing you how to create a new file for your website.

How to Create New Files


Step 1 – Login to your C-panel.

Step 2 – Click the File Manager link.

Step 3 – Click the Create New File link.

Step 4 – At the top right hand corner of your browser you will see a blank text field. Up under the text field you will see a drop down box. Type in the name of your file in the text field.

Step 5 – Click on the drop down menu and choose what type of file you want to create.

Step 6 – Click Create.

It will tell you that you have created the file so and so. (so and so meaning the name of your file) Now you will see your file in the left hand column of your C-panel.

How to View the Contents of a File


Step 1 – Login to your C-panel.

Step 2 – Click the File Manager link.

Step 3 – Find the file that you want to look at. Beside the file name you will see a little icon. Click on the little icon beside your file.

Step 4 – At the top right hand corner of your browser you will see some links. Click on the Show File link.

Step 5 – A new window will pop up and display the contents of that file. Click the x to close that window and return to your file manager.

How to Upload Files to your Website


Step 1 – Login to your C-panel.

Step 2 – Click the File Manager link.

Step 3 – You will see a Black Arrow point up with the Upload Files link beside it. Click the Upload Files link.

Step 4 – On the next page click the first Browse button.

Step 5 – A dialog box will pop up. Locate the file that you wish to upload and click Open.

Step 6 – Click the Upload button.

In the right hand corner of your browser it will tell you that your upload succeeded. To upload more than one file at a time repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have all the files that you want to upload in the blank fields. If you have more than 12 files you will have to upload 12 files and then repeat steps 4, 5, and 6.

How to Delete your Files


Deleting your website files is very easy. But be very careful when you delete files. If you delete one wrong file, it could mess your entire website up.

Step 1 – Login to your C-panel.

Step 2 – Click the File Manager link.

Step 3 – Find the file that you want to delete. Beside the file name you will see a little icon. Click on the little icon beside your file.

Step 4 – At the top right hand corner of your browser you will see some links. Click on the Delete File link.

In the right hand corner of your browser you will see your file, a black arrow, and a trash can. This indicates that you have deleted that file. You can click the Trash link in the bottom right hand corner to permanently delete the file. If you accidentally deleted the wrong file, simply click the little icon beside the file name to restore it.
