You Can Toast Nuts in the Microwave

Toasted nuts are tasty when enjoyed by themselves, and toasted nuts are a great addition to a number of desserts, salads, and main dishes. Toasted nuts can be enjoyed all year long, but during hot summer months no one wants to turn on the oven any more often than absolutely necessary. You can toast nuts in your microwave oven, and if toasted properly, microwave toasted nuts turn out as crunchy and delicious as nuts toasted in the oven. The following information will enable you to make delicious toasted nuts in your microwave oven, and you can make them in a matter of minutes.

The following cooking times are intended for a 700-watt microwave oven. Since microwave ovens can vary greatly, adjust cooking times accordingly. Never leave your microwave oven unattended while cooking.

Microwave Toasted Almonds

Toasted almonds are delicious by themselves, they are great for topping hot vegetable dishes, and they add a nice crunch to tossed salads. The following microwave toasted almonds are easy to make, and they are extraordinarily delicious.

1 cup almonds
1 tablespoon margarine
Salt and garlic powder to taste

Melt the margarine in a microwave safe dish, and mix in the almonds until they are completely coated. Spread out the nuts on a paper plate, and sprinkle them with salt and garlic powder to taste. Microwave the coated nuts between one and two minutes, or until they are sufficiently hot and toasted.

Microwave Toasted Pecans

1 cup pecan halves
1 tablespoon margarine
1/4 cup granulated sugar
�½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Melt the margarine in a microwave safe dish, and stir in the pecan halves. Combine the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, and coat the margarine-covered pecan halves with the mixture. Place the coated nuts on a paper plate, and spread them out as much as possible. Microwave them on high between one and two minutes, or until they are hot and sufficiently toasted.

Spicy Toasted Microwave Walnuts

These spicy toasted walnuts are delicious as a topping for your favorite oriental dishes, and they make a great topping for cheese spread. If you like the flavor of garlic and ginger, give these spicy toasted microwave walnuts a try. You won’t be disappointed.

1 cup walnut halves
1 tablespoon margarine
1 teaspoon soy sauce
�½ teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

Melt the margarine in a microwave safe dish, and stir in all ingredients, including the nuts. Place the coated nuts on a microwave safe dish, and toast them for one to two minutes. Stir them halfway through the cooking process, and continue heating them if necessary.
