Your Kitchen Island: How to Use Wood Embellishments to Create a French Country Kitchen Island

Creating a French Country antique paint finish on an existing Kitchen Island is an easy project that can be accomplished in one weekend. The simple addition of inexpensive wood plaques in many shapes will transform your kitchen island.

Those cheap plain laminate Kitchen Islands are perfect for French Country antiquing.

In the design world the look of wood cabinets and a painted kitchen island, that looks like a piece of furniture is so popular right now right now. No amount of paint will transform and update your kitchen island if you do not address the base of your kitchen island first though.

To start this French Country antique Kitchen Island project you will need a few different materials from your local home improvement store as well as some time. Check our the aisle with wooden embellishments. You can usually find them near the legs and other wood working material.

So, you want to step back and look at your kitchen island first. Note how may drawers and doors you have. Then, you may want to sketch it out or take a photo so you can remember what it looks like while you buy your wood embellishments.

Fleur de les are a great little addition you can easily find in the woodworking aisle. You can also go for flower garlands or whatever strikes your fancy.

Now, before you decide to paint or anything you need to install you renew French country wood embellishments.

You should clean you Kitchen Island and let it dry first.

Now, apply some wood glue to the back of your fleur de le. Pres it in place on the kitchen island and use a one inch finishing nail to hold it in place.

If you are finding that your wood embellishments are splitting, then you can pre drill a small hole with a very tiny drill bit. Slip your nail through this hole and it will not split!

Continue placing your wood embellishments dressing up the entire kitchen island. Once painted these neat little French country wood embellishments will look hand carved on your kitchen island.

Let you wood glue dry over night and you are ready to paint on your primer and paint finish!

Remember, if you have any sanding to do, go easy on your wood embellishments. They will be firmly attached with the nail and glue, but there is no need to pop them off!
