Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer: A Product Review

Recently I had the opportunity to spend a lot of quality time with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer. We painted every ceiling and every wall in our house with this interior paint primer. Here’s why I recommend it for any home improvement project that includes painting interior walls.

Low Odor from Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer

As someone who is sensitive to chemical smells, I was apprehensive about trying the Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer. I was unsure if I would be able to prime the entire house before we moved in, on my own.

While there was a low chemical odor from the primer, I found that I was easily able to tolerate it and work with it. Unlike my experience with other primers, I did not develop a headache or nausea when working with the paint.

I did find it necessary to have a fan on to blow in some fresh air and to keep the room cool during the hot month of August.

Affordable Price of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer

The Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer is a top choice for an interior paint primer when you have a lot of surfaces to cover. We purchased a five-gallon container of the interior paint primer from Home Depot for about $89. This was cheaper than the Kilz.

Smooth Application of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer

I started this DIY home improvement project with the ceilings. The interior paint primer when on smoothly. After I learned how not to apply the interior primer, each room became easier.

Because I had to prime over some dark walls, it was necessary to apply two coats of the primer to the walls. One coat could have been applied thickly, but then constant attention needs to be paid to brush out drips when they are still wet.

Stain Coverage

The Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer worked to cover the occasional ceiling stain and water stain on the walls. A couple of stubborn stains did need two or three coats of the interior paint primer to make them completely disappear.

Finished Look

The areas of the house which only have primer on them right now look finished and complete. When I first applied the primer to the ceilings, I had no idea how good it would look. Fortunately, I did not buy ceiling paint for most of the rooms. The only rooms which have painted ceilings are the kitchen and the bathroom, for extra moisture protection.

Because the Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer went on so well and looks so good just as it is, there was no reason to go back and paint the ceilings.

The trim in the house including the window trim only has primer on it right now. Eventually we will get around to painting more of the window trim in neutral colors or in white. For now, they all look great with just the primer. This is advantageous to the DIY home owner who has limited time to prepare a house before moving in.

I also feel confident having Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer on the walls of the closets and the storage areas of the house.

Overall Satisfaction

I highly recommend the Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer as an affordable, effective interior paint primer for home improvement projects.
