About Greenwich and Docklands International Festival London

Greenwich and Docklands International Festival is an annual festival held every year various places of Docklands and Greenwich. The festival features a host of splendid dance shows, theatrical performances and circus. The audience is always enthralled by the festival which continues for about 7 or more days. Such is the popularity of the event that people come from far away places to enjoy the extravagant show. The festival is a free street entertainment event and no charges are required to participate in the event. Every show or performance of the festival is undertoned by a theme which keeps exerting a pull at the audience.

    History

    Started in 1996 to fill the streets of Greenwich and docklands with fun and entertainment, the extravaganza continues and the popularity of the festival has grown manifold in due course of time. The bell, fanfare, time is like water flowing, run and bend it; are some of the shows presented in 2008's festival. 2009 festival was driven by water based theme and presented shows and theatres and some of the events were water music, Fous de Bassin, Pi-Leau, Greenwich Waves and laws of motion.

    Activities

    Various dance, circus and theatrical performances lined-up for every day of the event. The extravagant street entertainment continues for about a week in this fun-filled festival. Some of the programmes are Prometheus Awakes, Greenwich Fair, Word On The Street, Dancing City and Spectaculars. Some programmes that require booking are 'Motor show' and 'Crow'.

    The festival is held in summer (June).

    The festival lasts for a week. However, the Crow stage remains alive for more than one week and even prolonged over two weeks as well.

    How to Get To Docklands

    By Tram

    Greenwich Tram Station is at a distance of 0.2 mile from the destination and same can be covered by walk in 4 minutes. Move northeast on Greenwich High Rd/A206 toward Greenwich S St/A2211. Turn right onto royal hill. To view a detailed route map click Walking Directions.

    By Bus
    The nearest Bus stop is Greenwich, Greenwich Station (Stop L). Buses numbering 180, 199 or 386 reach this station.from the bus stop move northeast on Greenwich High Rd/A206 toward B209 and take the first right on Royal Hill / B209.
