About Reading Festival London
The Reading Festival is one of the few festivals in the United Kingdom that has been consistently putting on a show for the past 40 years. The music festival has evolved over the decades and is now a very popular rock and indie event that attracts teenagers and young adults. Reading is usually run along side the Leeds festival in the neighboring city. Many people end up visiting both events to get the most out of the line-ups playing at the venues. The Reading festival is also known for being very energetic and rowdy. With Reading having the capacity to hold 87,000 people on the event grounds, participants should expect the crowded event to be a great time filled with music, fun and friends.

History
The Reading Festival has a history that stretches all the way back to 1961. During that time, the event was known as the The National Jazz Festival. The event slowly changed and moved locations until in 1971, it made Reading its home. The music played at the event has also changed over the years as the tastes and preferences of the audiences have evolved. In the 1970's, the event focused on heavy metal, blues and progressive rock. By the 80's the festival had started showcasing a new wave of music. Interestingly, the Reading Festival was shut down in 1984 and 1985 because the government took over the festival grounds. In 1986 the newly elected council gave the festival the grounds opposite their old site and the event continued. In the 1990's, the line up starting showing rap and pop acts causing major changes to the festival. By 1999 the Reading festival had grown so much that a second event was created called Leeds. This split up the crowds making them more manageable. -
