Apple Announces Jam Packed Ios6
Rumors circulating before Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) had heightened expectations, and the California based company delivered to them as it revealed the iOS6 during the keynote speech on Monday, June 11. Attendees at the conference also had a look at several other upgrades to Apple products, including the MacBook.
The new iOS6 – which powers the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch – will be made available in the fall of 2012 and is jam packed with new features; 200 to be exact. Exciting new features include Apples own 3D Maps, Facebook integration and a Siri upgrade. Many other features were also showcased on stage and Apple’s fans and developers seemed to be impressed.
One feature that is making new is the 3D maps which Apple will be using to replace Google maps. The newest weapon in Apple’s arsenal against Google has turn-by-turn navigation, integration with the popular Yelp service, Siri controls and of course 3D. The three dimensional mode allows a user to see the map in a 3D “flyover” view and is very similar to what Google announced a few weeks ago. The map feature also has a crow source ability which can indicate traffic jams and construction sites to help drivers avoid traffic.
Apple did not stop with its anti-Google moves and also revealed the deep integration with Facebook in the new iOS6. The updates to the software make sharing content on Facebook easier from photo and map features. The Facebook like feature has been added to the app store so that users can see what their circle of friends like. Deeper integration was also seen with the calendar app which now allows users’ Facebook event and contact information to synch with the iOS6.
Siri learned a few new tricks and some extra languages too. The voice activated software can now post tweets and Facebook updates. The cool features don’t stop there, as Apple has expanded Siri’s abilitites and the assistant can also start apps and work with Apple maps. Siri will also be making its debut on the iPad with iOS6.
