Astronomy Day Overview

For all those who have some interest in astronomy, April and May have something really special for them. Astronomy Day is observed all around the world between mid-April and mid-May. The day is scheduled on a Saturday just before the first quarter Moon, so the dates shift every year.

The event is observed to provide a link between the general public and a number of astronomy professionals, groups and enthusiasts.     It was back in 1973 when for the first time the Astronomy Day was started the president of the Astronomical Association of Northern California named Doug Berger. The proper observance, however, started in 2005 and from then onwards it’s celebrated every year and many events are sponsored by local and international organizations to expand the outreach of the day!
