Bing Deepens Facebook Integration

Last month, Microsoft has revealed its biggest redesign yet of Bing, its search engine that entirely focuses on social search. Today, Microsoft comes up with its latest version of Bing.com, which is now obtainable to all U.S. users.

The new design is almost the same, but you will certainly observe a big change.  Now, you will have more specific search results in this new interface, a three-column design, and put more focus on social updates.

“The sidebar will appear as part of every query, but it will remain off to the right, allowing searchers to decide when and how to interact with it. We’ve moved most of the social content out of the main search pane and put it in a dedicated place where people can always expect to find it,” Bing team wrote in a bog post.

Bing will allow you to ask for friend’s input in the social column. In addition to that, you can view posts and queries that friends have decided to share with Bing.

According to Bing Team, “People have become as important as pages and search needs to evolve to embrace these changes.”

Microsoft is considered to be a small shareholder of Facebook and powers the web search and maps on Facebook’s social network. Undoubtedly, Google is the top search engine and has millions of users, so getting users to switch their affiliation may ultimately end up happening not by consumer choice, but by default. Google has also been making some drastic changes to its search algorithm to provide users with better search results.

Microsoft has to face a loss of $500 million a quarter in its online business mainly because of Bing. It is presently snapped up 16 percent of the search market, while Google dominates with 66.4 percent share.
