Business Bay Dubai Overview

The Business Bay in Dubai is a work in progress and was originally conceived as the central business hub for the rapidly expanding city. Currently, some of the buildings and towers at Business Bay have been completed while others are still under construction.

The area, which will have mixed use commercial and residential space, is expected to have a total of 240 buildings and will cover 80 million square feet. The infrastructure for the area has been completed and includes gardens, walk ways, a central bay and a metro station. Plans indicate that the Dubai Creek will be extended to Business Bay and will connect Ras Al Khor to Sheikh Zayed Road. Business Bay is also a freehold zone which means that investors who are not UAE citizens can also purchase property in the area under special licenses.

    History

The idea of creating a central business hub that not only serves Dubai but also the region came from Sheikh Mohammad the ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the UAE. The plans for the Business Bay project were finalized sometime in the 2000 and work was commenced immediately by the Dubai Properties Group.

The property slump that hit the city slowed down work but the project continued. All infrastructure work was completed by 2008. With some buildings in the area completed and delivered there are still projects that are under construction and the entire Business Bay area is expected to be ready by 2012 or 2015.
