Cricket to Offer Iphone for Its Prepaid Network

In the past, we used to get iPhone only from AT&T, but now things have been completely changed. Today’s announcement from Cricket Communication that iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S will be obtainable on its prepaid network, has amazed the tech circles. It is the first time that the iPhone will be available on a prepaid career.

The news was unenvied earlier this morning that Cricket Communication is going to sell the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S from June 22, and a 8GB iPhone 4 can be obtainable in $400 whereas 16GB iPhone 4S in $500.

Founded in 1998, Cricket is believed to be the seventh largest wireless carrier in the United States while competing the Big 4, U.S Cellular and MetroPCS. They are targeting budget-conscious users and providing iPhones along with $55 per month for unlimited voice, SMS and data. However, users can only use 2.3 GB of data a month at full speed. Unfortunately, there is no sign of the 32GB model anywhere.

There are some larger carriers in the country who sell the iPhone without a contract plan. But those phones are comparatively expensive than iPhone bought through plans, and the service costs also the same like phones used on a contract plan. However, the plan that Cricket Communication offers is reasonably cheaper than what most iPhone customers pay.

“We wouldn’t be doing it if we didn’t think it was a money maker,” Leap Chief Executive Doug Hutcheson said. Other than the phone is quite expensive and he doesn’t expect that more than 10 percent potential customers of the company are going to purchase it.

“This is an important addition to our portfolio, but it isn’t going to become our business,” Hutcheson said in an interview.

Pre-paid is a vast and emerging market where Apple hasn’t come yet. Undoubtedly, there are many smartphones are obtainable on pre-paid plans but the market is still dominated by Google.
